You can deal with magma and spike damage. It's just time consuming and not really balanced for PvP. No one has time to build a magma stopping wall when they're getting pwned.

Spike trap in the spawn. Infinite lava dupe. Both are neigh on impossible to fight.

Yeah, unless you're lucky enough to have someone set with a different spawn online to defuse it

There's an accessory that lets you spawn with full health too. It's not going to save you from a 15 tile deep thing of magma.

Terraria has been a griefer's paradise from day 1 though, and I think it's going to take more development effort than we should expect to really change that. I disabused myself of the idea of public servers early on. Just read the Terraria Online forums.

It reminds me of Hazordhu II, again, a game about building where eventually all there was left to do in MP was grief someone else.

You'd be surprised. Lots of people lurk here, and not all of them are nice. And people seem to notice the fact Bay12 organizes as a group for these kinds of games, and it tends to produce griefers.

I have an ok list of folk for a Group thing, basicly those that have been on my Maps...
Its only ok, cause someone is a thief. But I don't care, I can find another...

Then there is naturally from those on the Forums who have been posting for the last X amount of posts. Clearly we have enough or so, but its finding a Server which they can all have semi lag free experience and on at the same time...


EDIT::

Also my idea of Filling a Hollow Construct as the flag would be a good idea if you need to FIND said mats to fill it with. Like you need ASH to fill the slots or Hellstone Bricks. That way you would not only take the fight around your base but in hell where you have shit already hitting the fan due to MP spawn rates...

Well, I'm playing on the server of a friend of mine and we're currently looking for more players to join us. Perhaps I can convince him to allow you people to join his server through invites.

It's located in the Netherlands :)

Oh and we're taking it REALLY slow. I'm using iron/gold weapons and an iron armor, he's clad in a bit more but still around gold'ish and that's after almost 10 hours of cooperative playing.
A couple of reasons for this are that we try to avoid looking at walkthroughs/spoilers and avoid cheap tactics like digging a hole straight down. He has started doing it lately, but kinda hit a wall as he is getting swarmed with nasties at the bottom :P

You have to either dig down through the dirt layer background, knocking out pieces with a hammer (or dynamite), or get to the part where rocks are in the background, where you can place background tiles without the extra work.
