Bluh bluh I just can't beat the Destroyer. Using adamantine armor with the ranged helm and an adamantine repeater + hellfire arrows on a skybridge. I don't think this is bad preparations on my part, I think I'm just not a good enough player.

Percing. Weapon.

Spear or Dao of Pow. Doit.

Might want to use the melee helm, too. More defense, which helps a little. Ironskin and regen potion, of course. Bowl of soup would help.

The large worm AI can be a bit tricky if you don't figure it out. I would advise finding a horizontal corruption shaft and fighting it in there, like I did with the Eater of Worlds. Less of the worm is visible at any point to reduce lasers, drones are more clumped up and you can grapple onto the ceiling if the worm hits you sideways and makes the floor impossible to use.

Grenades might still be a viable strategy. At sixty damage a pop with splash, I imagine it's more effective than some guns.

Melee is probably the best option for fighting the Destroyer - you get multiple hits with most weapons, decent speed, and the melee armors have a nice ton of defense to dull the pain of getting hit. Get an adamantite sword, glaive, and helmet and go to town. And a Dao of Pow. That thing is murder.

with repeater, use hellfire arrows i guess.
or get a gun with crystal or meteor bullets.

Unholy arrows, repeater.

shoot down or up the shaft if you can.


not as effective as planting the dao of pow in the worm, but quite strong.

Obtain cobalt shield.
Obtain cross necklace.
Obtain 1 Hellstone Brick/Hellstone Ore/Meteorite.
Remove obsidian skull/horseshoe/shield.
Stand on ore/brick.
Abuse mercy invulnerability without mercy.

Crystal bullets are awesome against anything big.
It's a little less effective on high defense enemies like bosses. The Megashark itself barely edges above the body defense of 30, and each crystal shard should theoretically hit the armor cap and do pitiful damage.

Theorycrafting suggests that hellfire arrows on a repeater should work well.

In practice, though, if it doesn't pierce, it's going to have trouble against the destroyer unless the damage is ridiculous (Read: Megashark. Repeaters fire too slow.).

Crystal bullets are still going to outdamage cursed, unless the cursed bullets debuff effects the boss (fairly sure it doesn't). Cursed only does 4 more damage for the base bullet -- if the crystal shards do even two damage, so long as every shard hits, the total damage will be higher (2x3=6, vs 4. Every point over two increases the disparity by 3). It'd almost certainly do better with a megashark. Lemme go run the numbers a bit on th'clockwork AR. E: Basic AR looks like it might not be able to get to the 2 damage line for shards, at least sans-damage modifiers. With... probably. Probably.

What might be interesting, though, is an open air arena and holy arrows, on a repeater. Has anyone tried this? Looking at the wiki information, it looks like the stars it spawns would do a good job of hilariraping the destroyer, actually.

I'd say that Crystal Shot is also good against hardmode bosses. They drain Spazmatism's health very rapidly (dodging his fireballs, firebreath and his charge attacks are another story.), changing him to his second form in just about a minute and a half, if you have good aim. Also, I believe that while the megashark is damaging, the clockwork assault rifle is better when used in conjunction with the Crystal Shot, dealing more damage per shot if all the bullets connect.

It'd be definite on the twins -- the only one of those with high enough defense to cut shard damage (on a basic, no dam-mod from prefix or armor, clockwork AR) is maybe spaz in its second form. Shards do 60% damage of the main shot, so it'd have to do (35/2, so go with 18, just to be safe) damage. If I'm doing things right that'd mean a base shot damage of 31 or 32, with clockwork AR being 19+9 (28) with crystal shot. Just need three/four more damage to have the shards outdo the cursed bullet's higher damage.

I've BEEN using hellfire arrows. Before that, I used CWAR with crystal bullets and the damage was just too low, as I couldn't finish it before dawn.

Then I went the melee route and he died in less than 5 minutes. ::)

Welp.
I dug to hell.
I built it.
He came.
I kicked his ass with hellfire arrows.
And then i ran around smashing demon altars like crazy. Because the world isn't as fun without deposits of cobalt, mythril, and adamantite ore everywhere.

... so, uh. Does anyone know if smashing multiple triple sets of demon altars actually increases the amount of funmode ores you get? I only smashed two sets (six total altars) in m'small world, but stuff was still pretty plentiful.
