How to do Necromancy in Dwarf Mode (in coming version)
« on: May 19, 2011, 10:59:39 pm »

  • Embark on area that is only partially an evil biome.
  • Set up entrance and death traps in non-evil biome. (preferably non-edged traps)
  • Wait for goblin/elf/etc. attack.
  • Collect corpses. (keep corpses in non-evil stockpile for a while for skeletons)
  • Place corpses in walled off part of evil biome where only exit is through cage traps.
  • Collect caged zombies/skeletons.
  • Place and uncage zombies/skeletons as wanted. (in crypts, traps, etc.)
  • ? ??? ?
  • Profit! Necromancy!

Just wait for a necromancer to come in some sort of evil zombie siege, capture him, and use your new pet necromancer to animate dead fairies and unicorns!

I was under the impressions it works too well in the movies.

I'll have to try this once we can.

The idea of an army of pet necromancers is almsot too awesome to comprehend. Speaking of an army of necromancers, I wonder if there are any plans to somehow have dwarven necromancers - that would be fun.

Don't forget to train them into War Necromancers

Maybe necromancer could be a noble in evil biomes?

Ooh, biome sensitive cultures? That sounds interesting.

Is toady ever going to make it so that you can have, say, evil dwarves who use necromancy and do blood sacrifices, and good dwarves, who deploy paladins to hunt monsters and stuff?

  • Embark on area that is anywhere(close to a town for adventuring sake).
  • Set up entrance for death traps. (preferably deadly traps)
  • Wait for goblin/elf/etc. attack.
  • build a pit or room to store their souls.
  • make sure the room is filled with cage traps.
  • use Dfusion to place all the dead creatures souls into the pit using the pointer(will work on making a function for that) and flip on the zombie command(for best luck use the one posted in the Dfusion thread which grants you 99% less crashing from said zombies)
  • Collect caged zombies/skeletons.
  • Place and uncage zombies/skeletons as wanted. (in crypts, traps, etc.)
  • save the game incase thing horribly goes wrong with the other steps
  • Profit! Necromancy!
  • notice the zombies all attacking each other

This is how I usually go through my necromantic business through practicality of setting up a zombies in forts tend to go down as;
either arena fodder which is a bad idea and will lead to a tantrum spiral if you mix in the wrong zombie, water trap bonus, making a Huge Zombie mosh pit full of Dwarf zombies, animal zombies, and invader zombies fighting each other use this as means of holding up a siege if you make a the pit be the second entrance to the base.

If such things happen it will likely be through religious entities.

I just realised now, pit-traps will no longer need to be cleaned of corpses; you just keep the bodies down there, and when a necromancer passes by and resurrects them all to undead, you get an even more effective pit trap.

Not if Toady adds the [CAN_CLIMB] function.
