Mechanics Problem.
« on: August 27, 2011, 04:37:36 am »

Hey guys, used you guys previously with good results so thought I would return :)

I have currently embarked on a great site but with one problem. My mechanics workout cant be manned, even when I assign dwarfs to it to create mechanisms. I'm pretty sure I forgot a set a mechanic in the starting menu so my question is..

Do I need a mechanic with a skill in to be able to make the mechanisms since none of my dwarfs are wanting to create them when they are assigned under the skill?

Thanks

Afaik, all you need to make mechanisms is a mechanics workshop, a dorf withthe mechanics skill and a suitable material e.g. Stone.

I'm a newb so I may be wrong though.

Turn the labor on for a dwarf if you want them to be a mechanic, by default someone with the skill has it enabled on embark.

Make sure one of your dwarfs have mechanics enabled (its under engineering)
You have a mechanics workshop and stone available
Dont think you can disable it by accident with "orders" or something... Not sure about this one though

Only other thing to check (though unlikely) is that if the workshop was built with a certain kind of stone do not forbid that stone type in the shop.
