Is a there a desperate thread dedicated to clever and replicate able inventions, such as the mist generator?

Simpler clever ideas are populated in the wiki, typically.  Perpetual power waterwheels, goblin grinders, simple traps, etc.

I'm pretty sure there's a mist generator page in the wiki.

(Don't attempt to answer that.  Down that path lies ... well I was going to say madness but you all run towards madness as if it was made from chocolate and puppies.  Just forget I said anything.)

Yep, though it's just a specific design.

Another one from following the 'falling' link on the mist page.

Some stuffs aren't on the wiki, but those tend to be the sort of thing that's fiddly or need to be specially designed to fort.

The first small thing that made me feel awesome was my indoor waterfall. A few minutes later though, it started flooding my fort so I felt less awesome.

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

Right here!

Also, I've created a new "knowledge center" thread, since this one hasn't been maintained in a while: The Dwarven Academy of Science. There's actually not too much overlap, content-wise, since there has been a lot of new science in the past 18 months.
