I enjoyed the concept of the Arena Battles thread opened by another user on the forum. Since that user is incapacitated for the time being, I decided to start my own.

My idea is a bit more involved and if you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask in the thread or via PM. Thanks!

The Plan:
For the first rounds players will be pitted against eachother. Winners will be given an amount of AG (arena gold) which will allow them to purchase new skill points and equipment. The loser will not lose anything and, if they killed anyone before they died, they will be given a small amount of AG. If a player cannot make a kill after a few battles, I will give the chance to start a new character. If someone starts a new player and there are no other new players to battle they will be pitted against an NPC or a beast. Later battles will involve battles against different beasts, group battles, team versus team battles, etc. Enjoy!
Battles will be updated at least once a week, probably on a Monday. Everyone starts with 500 AG.

AG may be used in the shop or to purchase skill points. The 500 AG you start with will be used to purchase your initial gear and skills.

You may play as a human, kobold, elf, goblin, or dwarf.

Please post the filled out character sheet to begin!

Skills Cost:

40 AG per point for any skill with 6-10 points
50 AG per point for any skill with 11-15 points
60 AG per point for any skill with 16-20 points
(Example: Spear: 1-5 would cost 30 points for each skill point in spear and so on.)

Story:

She lounged upon her lavish couch, fanned and fed by two elven women. Surrounded by human guards, both male and female. Her long red hair flowing over the side and almost touching the marble tiles under it. Her green eyes glittered with excitement as each new combatant was presented in the arena before her. Calculating their chances of surviving against eachother. Her head propped up with a delicate and pale hand. Queen Amante of the human city Tamaros.

The arena was built of marble over a small expanse of land outside of the glorius city. The tiled in some sort of soft wood, well sanded and covered in resin to prevent splintering and make it easier to clean, a drain directly in the center.

The gladiators were mostly unwilling captures. Raids were sent out commonly to bring back victims from different races and various other creatures. A reward was put out for the capture of new gladiators. Some prisoners were quite unskilled, others had some hidden talents.

The gladiators were pushed forward, stripped of all but their gender and race. A human woman bent to whisper in the Queen's ear, reading from a piece of parchment, telling the queen what had been seen of the present gladiator so far. The gladiator in the center of the arena could sometimes be heard yelling or even begging, this made the Queen giggle in delight. A cruel girl indeed. Once they were dragged from the arena they were taken to a room, measured for armor, and asked what they would like to use as a weapon. The rules were explained as basic as possible. You win, you can get better things, you lose and...you lose. Loss was rarely shown in death, as soon as a gladiator hit the floor in unconsciousness the fight was stopped and the poor soul was dragged from the arena, patched up with the best medical team, and sent out again next time.

The city delighted in the fun, the arena often being crowded and cheers could be heard quite a distance. Gladiators with some rank could become famous and loved by the people, sometimes even earning the freedom to freely walk the streets to show off their battle scars. 

The contestants were brought back into the arena, kitted out in new gear, looking much more fierce. The Queen lifted her hand and all went silent, as soon as she dropped it the audience cheered and an announcement echoed across the arena. The simple word, "Fight!"

6/13/2011 - Removed the gnome race from list of playable races.
6/14/2011 - Noticed a wonderful typo on my shop table. The price has changed on high boots, shields, bucklers, and low boots. My original gladiators will not have to make any calculation changes.
6/18/2011 - Changed ALL of the weapons prices on their highest metals to 250 AG. No one will have to recalculate if they picked a silver or adamantine weapon before this date.

He wasn't being a grammar nazi. He was, however, pointing out that your gender means if your player is male or female. I have also removed Gnome as a playable race. I am setting you as a human male. If you would like to change that then just post.

Also, as far as names go, gladiators do not really get names. I will throw a story on here in a bit and it will explain why.
