Strange 40d tunnel.

I've been playing 40d recently and while I was raiding a dark fortress, I found a staircase that lead to a cave-like tunnel. The cave tunnel had a tunnel that went deep underground and lead to another dark fortress. It had several bridged off chasms and I was constantly spammed with messages saying "X has fallen into a deep chasm". Can anyone explain the tunnel?

Yes. Most of the tunnels in 40d will encounter a chasm, and it makes sense to bridge over them instead of going around.

I just made my way to the town. There's enourmous cracks that lead down to a chasm riddled through the town.

They were when I got there. I was spammed with "The antman bites X in the X blah blah!" I had to leave the town because I had to spam spacebar to get the messages offscreen. Also, the tunnel is the ONLY way through the mountains to the area I'm in, so that's pretty cool.

You could battle a goblin on a bridge and push him or her into a chasm.

I just killed a few people in one of the goblin towns and I saw a - escaping into the mountains. Do you think they're escaping using the tunnels?
