So, what was your first post, ever, on the Bay 12 forums? Let's find out. You might even be surprised.

Spoiler: How to find it: (click to show/hide)

This EXACT same thing happened to me (fortunately it was only an easy giant nearby). What makes my story more absurd though is that it took all of 24 hours for me to do the quest, so the probability unless there's a pattern hare to speak of is virtually nill.

I did find a couple forgotten narrow garments, so I presume it was goblins (they're not orcs!). I hate/thank them.
Let's see- this was in the "I want my reward, you elven bastards!" thread in the DF Adventure Mode forum (wherein people complained of receiving quests from elven druids which promptly migrated into oblivion). I don't think I did anything stupid, except not realizing that orcs were a popular mod at the time. Still hate elves.

Hello all. I'm new to these forums, but not the internet, or Dwarf Fortress.

Like the title says, I'm going to try to start an Adventurer Succession game. Lets see if I can survive my turn.

Spots:
1 NewsMuffin
2 Robocorn
3 (Josephus)
4 (NewsMuffin)
5 (Robocorn?)
6 (Josephus)
7 Vester
8 Josephus
9 Oglokoog
10 Calrogman

And we'll see from there.
Some general rules:
No savescumming unless you die from bleeding out from a toe scratch.
Don't intentionally kill the adventurer.
Try to recruit as many townspeople as possible.
Don't attack a civilization unless most of the other players says it's OK.
If the Adventurer dies in your turn, make a new one, and recover the old ones armor and weapons.
The players decide the Adventurers skills, name, race, and gender.
We're using version 40d.
Turns last 1 real-time day.

Xugot has, unfortunately, perished for the last time. We (I, at least) have moved on to Tath Enerane, or Tath Shimmeredknight.

Aha, I remember that. Good times.

I'd be glad to help if you have any questions.  I probably won't be online too much until next week though.  Finals week here, and I have a nice big project to finish still.  Grad ceremonies this weekend too.  But if you have any questions, feel free to ask.  I've stuck around the game for nearing on 6 years now.  It's pretty difficult to find a hosted game that hasn't turned into a basic FFA nowadays, but you can sometimes get rid of those types later at night.

The help and interface really are quite outdated though, most of it you'll probably learn through trial and error(which will likely result in your death).

Succesfully commanding a team of Syndicate, inflitrating the station, taking out all three command staff without any trouble and setting a nuclear device off without anyone suspecting a thing until five seconds before detonation is still one of my prouder moments.  Seeing "Captain?  I now fully believe that there may be a traitor onboard the station", right before the station was destroyed really made my day.

First post in the topic Space Station 13.  Was notified that bay12 people had made a topic on the game and stopped by to give advice and help with getting hosting going and whatnot.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

My first post was very simple:
Cloth is the new plate armor.
"Dwarves, arm yerselves! Take up yer ax! Don yer dresses!"

...It even got sigged - which has never happened again.

I was playing dwarf fortress, and I had three miners digging a cave, suddenly the cave 'dissapeared' (=Just turned like it was never digged...)and there were plenty of messages about cancelling designation due 'dangerous terrain'. Even slopes reappeared. Those three dwarves are alive(according to the game), but I cannot give them orders, and because all my miners and picks went there I cannot dig them up again. Also some trees next to mine turned as red 'T's. This also happened once to my friend.

Was an OP about technical problems.

Salutations, Comades!

I'm Omegastick, but most people know me as Omega (except at my school, where I'm known as Isaac). I've stalked the forum for months now and I feel that the time is right to reveal myself :P. And to finish my greeting I have an amusing thing:

God of Gods, when translated into dwarf becomes nom nom! :D

Edit: Later the whole group was killed by fire imps.
Picture's gone now...

At some point, you have to accept that this is an alpha, and things change.  I usually just finish whatever fort I'm on when a new release comes out, then make a new world (if there have been changes that justify it).  Plus, this way you get a heads up if there are any major bugs in the release.

That trick doesn't work for mine. I've been here so long that most of the oldest stuff has been lost or scrambled by historical disasters like forum moves.

I am unable to dig straight down. I started on the top of a cliff (lets call that z=0), with only one level below me accessable (z=-1), so i desparately need to be able to dig straight down (to z=-2). I looked it up, and apparently I should be able to build stairs underneath (in z=-2) the stairs i already built (in z=-1, going to stairs in z=0). It says that the area directly under the stairs is blocked, and I can't mine there either. What do i do now?

Edit: Oh, and Mac user, so windows-specific fixes wont work. Probably doesnt matter, but thought id say it anyway.
Ayup.

First post on the Aurora thread.

Great game.

Anyone find a Hypergiant star?

I have yet to find even a (Normal) Giant, I've only found up to Subgiants.

I REALLY hope my first Hypergiant is the lovely YV Canis Majoris, hmm... anyone ever thought what it would be like to live on one of the planets in it's system? Major sunburn, heheheh...

Edit; fail-link.
Wow, amazingly I made no spelling errors. At least, I think...

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

It's funny. I have something like six times as many posts as you, but I have started the same number of threads.
