So, I've played a few adventurers now and I've noticed something: Everyone who isn't from your "hometown" is hostile, if you're an outsider then even your starting town is hostile.
Why is this? How does one avoid it?

Could it be because I'm playing a kobold through Kobold Camp? Even other Kobolds are hostile in this situation. It's FUN to a point, and then it just gets frustrating.

or mod Kobolds raws to elf so they don't seem hostile to every one.

Hehe is that really it?
Is it because of their item_thief tag? Because even other kobolds are hostile to kobolds, and I'd really like to be able to play a kobold adventurer who doesn't get shanked for trying to tell people that he solved their dragon problem.

yeah it's because of the item_thief tag.
it causes the creature to be hostile to every one.

Simple, mod in another kobold civ. Make sure it has a different name in the raws, though. (Duplicate raw entries do weird things to the game.)

What Do duplicate raw's do?

Well, you can get civilizations populated by non-sentient creatures, items made out of some really weird materials (clothing made out of fat, etc.), and general screwyness. In short, it causes any worlds the game generates to be insane.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the crashes. It also increases the likelihood of the game crashing.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing.
Double the kobolds in this world. Fun fun fun. I put the wizard's tower mod back in to compensate >_>


And the reason duplicating RAWs does what it does is because when generating the world DF takes every raw entry and puts them each in individual "slots." But there's only room for one RAW entry in each slot, so when you have two entries by the same name one of them moves on to the next "slot" and pushes the rest on. So where, say, cave spider silk might be you'll end up with firesnake for whatever reason.
Or that's how I visualize it anyways, if this were a physical thing.

Actually, that's pretty much how it works. Except that instead of physical objects, it's data getting pushed around.
