Dwarfs not planting pig tail seeds?

I have 5 pigtail seeds, and a few dwarfs with the planting skill on. I forbid the seeds and claimed them, but no matter what I do, they refuse to plant one. Is there another skill besides planting you need to plant the seeds? I have the right season on and pig tails are clearly selected. Help?

1. Make sure those dwarves are not busy doing other things
2. Make sure the ground under the farm plot is muddied (smoothing the ground will take the mud away)
3. Make sure there are no physical obstructions such as burrows or locked doors in between you.

Is there a dwarven caravan on the map? Those seeds may belong to them. If they're otherwise in red on the stocks screen, they won't be planted, either, because they don't belong to you.

I feel sooo silly. I had so many plump helmets I turned all the farming labors off. I turned it back to plump helmets and realized this. So I turned the labors on and put pig tails as the seeds currently being grown and it worked!

Doesn't need to be when there's soil underground.

Pffft. When I was yo' age we had to muddy everything you youngins don't know how easy you have it.  :P

I remember those times too! I thought I still had to until, like, a month ago!
