Highest waterfall you've ever seen
« on: July 01, 2011, 11:10:52 pm »

I just genned a new large region and started a new fort where a brook feeds into a major river... via a 36 z-level waterfall.

I love how this game automatically generates stuff like this. It really made my day.

Let's compare lengths. What's the highest waterfall you've ever seen?

Waterfall? The closest I ever had was a glitchy spring supercharged geyser.

I have only had a single waterfall, and it was about 3-5 z-levels.

I think it was about 15 z-levels and the cliffsides revealed gold and platinum. It was a good embark...

Can you upload the save?

5 or 6 z-levels, I think. 10 at most.

Also, can you upload that save to DFFD? I have this idea for an entire fortress built into the wall behind the waterfall...

60 something* z-levels straight into the ocean.

It was a bugged version though with bugged river heights.  So it might not count.

Only eight, but it went onto land and THEN went into the river. My dwarves kept walking across this one tile passage to get by the river.

And thus a waterfall killed me fortress.

Every few miles, [the dwarves] stop the cart.  One of the dwarfs (sic) gets off, digs a hole down below the dirt layers, licks the bedrock, and then they know exactly where they are.  It's called GPS: Geological Piquancy Sampling.

Erm I remember a +-15 z level waterfall, but I was really newb back then and didn't really do anything with the embark sadly. I swear it was a sweet embark aswell with the river cutting deep into the rock grand canyon style.

Yeah, I'll upload in about 12 hours*. I've done very, very little in it due to the Steam sale. I've dug a small hole in a slope and two 6x6 rooms.

I actually tried doing a fort like that before. The falls were about 16z high. It was a cool idea, but I accidentally flooded my fort. It might have had something to do with me trying to make my entrance also a flood chamber fed by the waterfall.

Ditto here, my highest was also the result of the Seaside Property bug, highest legit one was about 30.

I actually once downloaded a save specifically because of it's legit 70 level waterfall. I rerouted the flow to a moat across the river canyon, which had a city built around it suspended hundreds of feet above the hippo-infested waters.

My highest waterfall?  Somewhere in the vicinity of 200 z-levels.  Granted I genned the world specifically for massive variance in altitudes and specifically looked for a site with extreme cliffs and permanent water.  And a volcano.  Can't forget the volcano.  Even genning a world specifically for that purpose, finding a 4x4 embark area with all three of those is dang hard.
