What I especially like about this next update is the way that it lays down the building blocks for lots of other stuff to be added in the future. Cities now mean we can have people living meaningful lives with shops and jobs, and the other races sites may be easier to generate now that Toady has a city generating gizmo. (As you can tell, I have an incredible knowledge of this stuff

)
Also the new interactions are hopefully going to be a huge hit with the people that dwell in the seedy underbelly of this forum that is the modding section
I am also glad Toady is keeping a lot of stuff randomly generated, as this has always seemed one of Dwarf Fortress's outstanding traits. Randomly generated vampires? They should spice things up...
I think this is the release that finally makes adventure mode into a game again. Up until now, there have always been large broken chunks. Cities with an underground will, I think, make those tentative first steps as an adventurer substantially less likely to result in instantaneous death, since presumably running away from something in the city underground leaves you with somewhere to run away to.
Adventure Mode has been a game again for ages. It's just been nowhere near as good as other games with a premise of "you are an adventurer going on adventures".
I agree. It does quite a good job at the moment (The main attraction of it is the detailed combat I think) but once you have done a few quests...meh...you're either a some kind of all-destroying god, or a corpse
