Well, considering the sex change surgery would take you out of action for months, and during that time thousands of nerds will jump off buildings, or strangle themselves with Cat-5 cables, I don't think that would work too well.  Your best hope is to pop a whole bottle of Adderall and pray your heart wont explode before you release.

No pressure or anything, though.

Jeez.. I feel sorry for toady.. The guy can't take a break for a day or two without people insinuating that he's not allowed to.

I would like to see you guys even try to write half of the code that toady writes in an average day... It would be good for a laugh.

It's actually pretty amazing how often that page is updated. Most games you're lucky if you hear news of what's going on behind the scenes every month. It is pretty fascinating being able to read a coarse summary of development every day, looking at what takes a long time to finish and what's being done in an hour; I've been surprised many times by what's involved in making this thing. But yeah, people really shouldn't take that stuff for granted. :P

I think it's pretty awesome myself. However I too had integrated the reading of new dev updates into my daily morning schedule. It throws me off when there isn't a new one. :P Of course, I often attribute that to my having checked before Toady goes to bed, knowing his sleeping schedule. Hell, I used to be on that schedule. I thought it sucked. I find it amazing that anyone would willingly stay up all night every night and sleep all day every day.

Man, all this talk is making me feel guilty that I still haven't donated. Ahh, to have my casino job back, when I could afford such things as "generosity"...

Yeah, I also find it amazing how often and how detailed the dev notes are updated.  It's very nice.

I suppose the problem with doing something special is that people expect that behavior all the time, even if it is abnormal, relative to most.

It's very professional. Most project leaders on major software projects probably don't give daily updates to their bosses like.

You better get back on it today, or I'll make you a dead man! *shakes fist in rage*

There's a good chance I would have never bothered registering an account here if Toady wasn't so generous with the dev log. And releasing the game to the public in semi-regular iterations(in pre-alpha mind you) helped keep my attention for DF ongoing. It's such a brilliant model for someone living on his free game.

Wow, I'm not the only one who goes to dwarf fortress dev_next every weekday before I start my working day? I feel much better now.

Maybe we should donate a bit to Toady on the strength of such regular devnote updates, seeing as the are are so important to our daily routines..

edit: Oh yeah, toadycam, I second that.

I can finally make it official... seeing as I'm not alone in this... for the last year or so... I have been checking the dev notes... near-DAILY..
I am Uberubert, and I'm a dev-note-aholic.

If you don't want to check the dev page every day, do what I do and subscribe to the RSS feed.

Not only does Toady give daily development updates but he practically spills out his game design in great detail.  He's not only revolutionary in designing games but also in this "camgirl" open style.  Shake that code, Toady!

Okay, can I get my money now?
