Linkrealms MMO (in Beta)
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:37:09 am »

http://www.linkrealms.com/
I recently stumbled across this game it's UO inspired and even plays like it. If you been looking for something similar to UO this game has some promise to be awesome.

Free to Play: No limits on skill, travel, or loot.
3 races: Even though there are races there is not difference in stats just looks. play as a succubus/incubus, Cat/Kanenid(dog), Human
Land Ownership: You can own and build your own land (you do have to pay $9.99 a month but it includes a TON of content, and it very large chunk of land.)
Customized Characters: Everyone can look unique. (with more to come)
Skill Based: You are not locked into a particular class or profession. (not a huge selection of skills but more are getting added.)
Non-Instanced Dungeons: Collect rare artifacts and loot. (some have TONS of loot if you get Lock picking up "although it really hard to train")
Player Owned Vendors: Take a cut of the action. (Blacksmith, Tailor, Farmer, cook) You can give them custom text to say as well
Farming: Grow, harvest, use or sell your own crops. (Huge selection of crap you can make a winery.)
Crafting: Create your own brew or cook food and beverages. ( armor and weapons aren't craft able yet but will be soon)
Pet Breeding: Offspring inherit cosmetic and behavioral genes. (Full blown complex breeding for roosters) sadly the only pets you can own at the moment are rooster but the breeding system will be for all pets included.
Pet Training: Shape your pet's behavior with reward and discipline. (Roosters have to be trained and can be trained to heal or cast spells as well as do nothing. you can enter them into a cock fighting tournaments) Your cock start off as a total ass and wants nothing to do with you he may even attack you, bu with proper training he can be a great dungeon companion or a source of income to bet on.

This game is great there is a lot of content for being in a fairly early beta stage. The community of the current beta testers are awesome people they will help you with understanding and playing the game and even show you realms if you ask nicely  they will ask any question and basically are your tutorial for the game, the devs even sometime pop in and help out too.

The breeding alone is incredibly complex, no rooster will EVER be the same The genetics of each rooster are varied and can transfer the behavioral patterns and fighting style as well as looks. here the video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4HxhH2y2oo I'm sure you will be amazed at what is and can be capable with there style of breeding.

Also about land ownership it may only be purchasable but you can turn it into pretty much anything you see in the game and more. Want a cock fighting ring/ breeding pit? Maybe a casino?, Maybe you want to turn it into a full pvp zone with traps to capture players trying to get into your home. The system is really complex (the editor is a bit buggy but it should have a new updated version coming really soon) for $10 a month it provides a TON of extra content. you can even turn your own realm into a bank for other players to use. You control everything from who can and can't enter. You can even place monster spawners inside them and you can place any game texture on almost all surfaces.

I highly suggest signing up for the beta, Invites are handed out every Saturday. Sign into the forums and introduce yourself ask questions and you will be answered. Also take note there website hasnt been updated for a while it does no justice of the game.

Sure I'll try it out. I loved UO. How is the server performance?

ugh, just realized that I have to wait until Saturday to get an invite. You should bump this on Thursday as a lot of people won't be interested in signing up and then waiting a week.

I also gave you a shout-out Kregoth.

I've signed up for the Beta. Hopefully I'll get in!
Looks like quite an interesting game. I still yearn for the UO days...

I have to admit I have something against Betas that charge fees for additional content.

many games are charging for beta access now. This is an MMO that is in beta, but allows you to purchase additional features, but are not needed.

Unless the definition of 'beta' changed when I wasn't looking, they're meant to test the game and weed out bugs/improve gameplay/etc for the full release. Doesn't making you pay 10 dollars to access apparently tons o' content kind of...go against that?

Krath, I understand your point of view and also have a problem with that. What you are misunderstanding is you aren't required to pay anything to play the beta.

Feel I should clarify the meaning behind a ton of content when buying a realm. When I mean buy that is the amount of customization in regards to creating the Looks of your realm and the possibilities of making a unique play area for you and anyone who goes to it. you actual have to by a lot of thing within the game for you realm as well, it does not give you an immediate benefit.

The amount of content for a realm is mostly in regards to not having to use public farms and breeding pins, you also allows for much more storage to hold your stuff as well as grant able rights for friends, guild mates, and players. The realm is not something you need to get ahead in the game it just make certain things easier such as crops and select cock breeding (no random genetic traits from public, but you still can get awesome fights using them) For the most part though owning a realm cost quiet a bit of in game money.

All content within the game is completely free the only real store bought items are realms, some better equipment repairers, and cosmetic change such as race. I was in the same boat as all of you about purchasing a realm but they are not needed to play the game and progress.

this is also a 3 man dev team and this is there full time job they need some form of money to continue developmental, it far better then a subscription based payment. there a whole slew of new content that will be released soon and the devs are always listening to players.

Give the game a shot put in your suggestions your concerns and worries. One suggestion that brought up a lot is purchasable in game realms that may be different then others, perhaps smaller? not sure but there some rumors lol :) Enjoy.

I like the way this looks.

Shame the races only differ visually, though.

By the way, where are the servers located? US? Europe? Both?

I am unsure where to servers are located but I live in Washington state and have yet to experience network lag. Also the game is really well done in regards to system requirements it even work on Linux :) a few if the beta members live in EU and they have minimal lag as well so I wouldn't worry although then again there aren't a huge amount of players playing, so they haven't been able to test network load when a lot of people are logged in.

Can't buy a stake without having an account, will buying one give you access to the beta? If not, the dev's should really consider this if they want extra support.

Well it isn't actually listed on there site or the forums this is mostly from things devs or long running beta members mentioning. But a few of the things i hear rumors are a new pet called snap dragons, some new skills, and a few new events that effect realms and dungeons.

As it is now realms have random events that occur at times like farm thieving gnomes and an outbreak if mushroom caps. This events give the effect that make your realm a real part of the game world. There is also chance of random wandering creatures that can sometime be really nasty making it very hard to get home lol. you realm isn't just a place to call home it is part of the world and is effected by many things it very dynamic and it rarely is dull.

Not sure what the new skills will be but i believe it will expand combat a bit. There will also be some PvP enabled dungeons that have great loot but can be pillaged by players deciding that get in the action. I also believe blacksmith as a crafting skill could be coming pretty soon.

Also a thing about your pet rooster, I want to give an example of how sophisticated the AI and genetics that go with it. Each rooster has unique behavior that are of there own, you can train them to use certain tactics and the cock inspector at the cock arena will tell you some tidbit about your bird. Things like how aggressive he is and whether or not he prefers ranged combat or in your face attacks. They also must learn how to use spells and combat maneuvers just like us so you need to train them by having them fight and rewarding or punishing them for things like dodging and casting heals.

The AI is awesome Kat one of the beta testers has a bird that completely passive and will heal anything on it's team and does a good job at it. her other bird on the other had is a caster and it does a combo attack that can be quiet devastating to monsters. using proper reward and punishment I was able to get my bird Danger Dan to use a combo of stun knockdown and a large over the head attack he is a very tactically inclined bird, my other bird on the other hand is a great spell caster but he isn't very smart when it comes to combat he tends to cast random spells and I have been training him to only use certain ones. I have slowly got him to cast spells that I want and he been getting better.

There is a TON of depth to the birds so expect the new rumored snap dragons to have the same level of depth. As a pet system this game is what I would call the best I have ever seen hands down, nothing compares. They aren't mindless noobs either they start as one but with proper training they are great companions.

Actually that's an AWESOME idea I am going to put that in the suggestion forums there and see what other say I am sure questor would love this :)
