Yeah, the mafia subforum is a bit slow these days. Typically we see one 'big' game at a time and one or two smaller games. I suppose I could run a mini-setup with a fairly simple ruleset if enough people are interested.

Often being locked just means it is the night phase :) But you're right, we don't have a new one open for signups right now.

More seriously, the mod controls that to some extent by setting the turn lengths.  72 hour Days are going to play out differently than 48 hour Days. I'd plan on most Day phases going for their entirety early on.  Night phases have more to do with the players and mod, since they CAN end early if everyone sends in their turns and the Mod has time to process them early.
