Textured Grid 16x16 Tileset
« on: March 16, 2016, 09:36:34 am »

Update, 3/14/2019: New alternate-walls version.

Update, 3/29/2018: Getting back into DF and I spent all day today adding and tweaking sprites.
  • Walls and floors should stand out a little better now.
  • Added transparency to rough stone walls so dark walls stand out much more.
  • Enhanced tables, chairs, and stone to make it easier to tell them apart.
  • Added sprites for buckets, mechanisms, anvils, and several others that I can't remember off hand.

So I got tired of making small edits to someone else's tileset for my own personal use so I decided to make my own using Rogue Yun's basic ascii tileset as a base. My goal with this was to make it pleasant to look at while making it easier to work with while playing. So while each tile kind of blends together they're also very easy to distinguish from each other, if that makes sense. Probably better to take a look at the screenshots to see what I mean.

I recommend changing the pillar icon to 199 and the sky icon to 176. I also highly recommend using one of Vherid's color schemes. I like Jade myself. The old screenshots were taken using the default color scheme. The new ones use Vherid's bone scheme.

That's a neat trick with the engraved tiles, I like how it flips the look totally, I only did a little basic tilemagic with an upscaled/cleaned up version myself.

16x16 is just too small on a 1920x1080 screen.

Worth remembering that 1/2 is unused like the 256 tile, so they're good for furniture type tiles.

Engraved here is a rendition of an image of the Dwarf Fortress learning curve. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It depicts an obsidian overhang which menaces with spikes of obsidian and tears. Carved on the overhang is an image of Toady One and the players. The players are curled up in a fetal position. Toady One is laughing. The players are burning.
The VectorCurses+1 tileset strikes the square set and the severed part sails off in an arc!

New update is ready (see OP) and aside from some minor tweaking this will probably be the final version. I added several new sprites for furniture and made several enhancements to existing sprites.

The Armor stand is neat looking, interesting how it has a different feel from the base simple mood set. Whatcha call it? Textured Mood?

I love it! You have my official stamp of approval!

I'm definitely borrowing your new and improved barrel design... >:D

@Max: That looks totally awesome too!! I tried working on a larger version of my tileset but my limited pixel computer monitor isn't conducive to it. But I love what you have done! It looks amazing :D

Oh good! I tried to smooth the edges when I scaled it up to keep the chunky aesthetic as best I could.

Added a new alternate-walls version as well as the Halloween version to keep them all in one place.
