[Community fort] Gemforest - A Livestream fort [OFFLINE]
« on: August 01, 2011, 08:27:02 pm »

I finally decided to start a community fort, but I  wanted it to have something unique, so I had the idea to play it live.
I'm using pheobus tileset.

Quick summary of the events of the 1st Granite to the 8th Sandstone

I realized that I should have started keeping a journal up to date months ago, so I'm going to write down some of the events that happened to us during the last couple of months.

Me and 6 other dwarves were traveling together to find a nice place to settle and build a nice outpost to help our growing civilization.

I made a huge mistake.

I wanted to save us some work by going around the mountains instead of through them, I didn't bother looking at my map. We found ourselves in a twisted place where animated pile of bones walk among the livings. Unfortunately, one of the wagon's wheel got stuck between two large rocks and we broke it while trying to free it. Since we brought no replacement wheel, we decided to dig out a quick shelter to protect us from the undead animals that were roaming around. I asked our woodcutter to start doing is job and go chop some trees to build beds, Firelordsky insisted on going fishing.

In early Slate a strange animal interrupted Firelord's fishing, it looked like a moose but almost all of it flesh was rotten. FlaminToadstool picked up her axe and went to stop it. I was worried because the creature was quite large, but she quickly spilled the fetid guts of the animated moose corpse and it just stopped moving. She came back to us unarmed.

Once we were safe underground, I started to sketch the architecture our future fortress and asked the miners to begin their work. Some dwarves stumbled upon us and asked for the safety of our modest outpost, since we need more people to help us get a stable food and booze supply I accepted.

A pile of bone vaguely shaped in the form of a deer started to roam a bit too close of us and FlaminToadstool confronted it. She swiftly punched it in the lower spine and hacked it in the rear leg, it was enough to make it crumble on it's own weight.

Since then we survived while the miners were working hard at carving out a nice place to live.

Today, 8th Sandstone, FlaminToadstool destroyed a skeletal panda.

what are the profession's of the open dorfs?

ive gotten in the habit of replacing my chief medical dwarf as soon as he gains any notable skill in diagnosis.
It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

If you look at the top of the pictures you should see what the dawrves are currently skilled in, but last stream ended on a migrants wave of 20 dwarves, so almost anything you want, you have it. I can't dwarf you as a militia commander since we already have one and I would prefer to stay the main weapon & armorsmith, but anything else, you have it.

Also, next stream announced.

I'm looking for the following things in a dwarf: (In order of importance, starting from the most important.)
Being a mechanic.
Having any/all of those 5 skills that appear next to each other in Dwarf Therapist, that have to do with metal.
Being an architect.
Being male.
I'd also like to see the character page of the dwarf I get.
Can't see your next stream live. Timezone differences. The start of this fortress was the last 1 hour or so of your last stream? If yes, then I'll watch it.

what do postdwarvenists do with goblins?

We slaughter them by the thousands.
But... you know, we do it ironically.

Silly me, I forgot to put the link to the stream in my first post, it's there now. We're in the spring of the second year.
