Bit of a Cavy problem
« on: August 04, 2011, 02:37:35 am »

At some point, migrants brought some pet Cavies with them to Knifemurders.  They bred.  a LOT.  The fort's full of Stray Adult Cavies and Cavie Pups.  What should i do with them?  Big Guineapig Barbeque?  Or can they be trained?

Drop from tower - fun and profit ensue. Failing that you can always just butcher them.

We see a family of small land rodents.

Burning and raping the land is recreational. Where business is concerned, though, sustainability is the name of the game.

In dwarf fortress, Cavies are more like guinea pigs.

How do you set up a tower drop, anyway?  I've got a nice mountain I'm not doing anything with.  Yet...

If you got a tall enough cliff(or just dig a deep enough pit) you can designate it as a Pit/Pond and order animals chucked down it. Dorfs will gladly drag every single animal there and toss 'em down.

^ You can't assign animals to burrows if I recall correctly. They need to be pastures.

make them like fighting or war trainable, then unleash them against a goblin siege. Nothing can withstand a _sufficient_ number of cavies, i guarantee it.

Cavies are good eatin' in real life, so no reason you can't make the same use in DF.  Additionally, they grow up relatively fast, and breed like.. well.. rabbits, so you can make a fairly constant supply of meat out of 'em.
