Hi folks! There's a Dungeon Crawl tournament to celebrate the release of 0.9! Tournament starts in just over a week - August 13 to August 28. If you haven't played 0.9 yet, I encourage you to check it out. There's a new skill system that eliminates the exp pool and victory dancing, and it's pretty slick.

We need 6 players per team, so let's see who's in and figure out how many teams we're putting up! Last year we had 4 teams representing Bay12, and we really gave them what-for. This year's tournament is only 16 days, so it's less of a time commitment.

If you'd like to play, let us know your experience level.

Team note: We talked about reorganizing some of the teams, but it seems like not enough people are following along, and at this moment there's just 7 hours till the teams are frozen, so I suggest staying with the teams as originally organized.

is my highest score so far, so I guess I'm intermediate/Advanced(Not sure how close I was). However I'm going to train/play a lot this while watching mad man to see if I can bump it up a level.

I'm willing to try this, although I'm not sure what team I'd be on. The best I've done was 3 runes once (but I killed that character out of stupidity and boredom). I haven't really actually gotten many runes after that, except for one oddball time in the Abyss, so I'd be OK with either Advanced or Intermediate.

Ok, I'd like to be in this time. I have won a couple of times (my first was during the last tournament) but I cannot do so consistently. I've never won in 0.9, however; it seems like a lot of the spells and tricks I relied on have been nerfed or removed.

Anyway, hope 0.9 gets officially released in time for the tournament...

I have a tiles-account, but not a CDO/DGL-account. For the tournament, do I need to make a CDO/DGL one? Or does the 'register a new one' encompass my 'new' tiles-account?

Is there a changelog for 0.9 anywhere? I'm training on 0.8.1 till it's officially released.

You should train on one of the 0.9 trunk, i don't think there's an official changelog that highlight the major changes, but the skill progression/training has been completely changed (and is now much better in my opinion) to get rid of the victory dancing, teleport does not exist as a spell anymore, meaning if you used to learn it as a panic button in case you ran out of teleport scroll (or had them all burned by some lucky fireball/fire breath) and had the bad luck of finding no teleport ring, it's going to change your evasion tactics, making it more difficult.
There's a new race to play with, the octopodes that can wear lots of rings at a same time

Lurker here, I'm interested in joining a team for the tournament. I've never played online but i'm not exactly a novice since I've something like 15 wins (includings three 15+ runes win).

@Robsoie The octopodes are no longer in trunk, they needed much more playtesting before releasing so they aren't in the current pre-release trunk (they'll be back in 0.10 trunk).

Hopefully they'll come back soon as they had some unique gameplay.

My calendar's a bit more full than it was during last year's tournament, but I'm sure I'll be finding time to waste on Crawl, tournament or no tournament. I got one three-rune win under my belt, and I can probably manage another if I concentrate and stay the fuck out of Tomb.
