Tahan searches for the local well and fills up the canteen he holds in his sack. The general store looks closed but on closer inspection an elderly lady waits behind the counter. Tahan checks out the prices

[ BEST PRICE RATIONS ]

1 Day  -- â10

2 Days -- â15

3 Days -- â20

etc

The old lady rocks back and forth in her chair, muttering quietly and playing Angry Birds all the while.

Sami stands up and heads off towards the Red Rock Inn, the nearest of the saloons, he passes a trough full of Solar Meal with Mk II STaLLIoNs eating quietly. When Sami enters the bar, he is greeted with the sight of a couple of drunks and a mysterious robed person, sat in the corner. He is aware someone is watching him...

Max turns about and looks heads for the nearest saloon, the Cosmonaut's Rest, he turns out his pocket and finds â15, handy for purchasing things in today's Mars, where a lot of people have nothing..

The Cosmonaut's Rest is a strange bar, the seats, once luxuriously furnished, are worn and threadbare, strange skulls are hanging on the walls and the windows are blocked out, the only light comes from the behind bar lights which provide a dark feel to the Rest.

((My character is a trader, so it sort of makes sense she might have a little money. Maybe make a background and you can get some?))

Reyhana Tahan hefted the wait of her now full canteen. Water was life after all...even out here, some thing never change. When it had become clear to her that the desert lands her family had called home for generations were no longer safe due to the threat of the War, she  and her family had gathered up the last of the money and sent her to Mars to found a homestead. Her father and mother were too old, her brothers and sisters too young. It was up to her. If all went well, she would be sending back money soon to have them brought to Mars as well, and maybe they could all have a new home...if all didn't go well, she pondered grimly...no need to dwell on that.

She was just lucky the last few family trinkets she bartered to the more wealthy vacationers in the space port had gotten her some Martian Credits to buy some food with, however bitter it was to part with them. Reyhana was desperately hungry after the long flight. She had heard the less reputable Space-Travel lines like she rode in on cut the nutrient rations to those sleeping in cryogenic stasis by half or more, which might explain that. She wondered what sort of food they ate on Mars...

She asked the woman for two days worth of food, and hands over half her credits.

Hmm. Well, it was nothing she had ever eaten before. Some sort of heavily spiced, dry jerky, that came in small strips and portions of bitter, yet hearty tasting bread. She wolfed a quarter portion down ravenously...it was actually quite good. Not too bad for trail food.

Enjoying her food, it was easy to get lost in thought, but of course, she was being careful-she knew that this town was rife with criminals-waiting to take a cut out of your hide. Not too different from Earth at all. The desperation and anger was everywhere, and most of them seemed to be men, angry at her for taking water from a public well that was 'theirs', or perhaps for for no reason than she was an 'outsider' or maybe even because she an Arabic seeming woman that held herself proudly. But, the rifle slung over her back tempered their dislike and desperation with a need for self preservation.

She saw a few others heading into the saloon. Maybe other people new to Mars like her?

Action: Enters the saloon, to take a look the hologram offers, and maybe find some work from the locals.

Sami found it fairly unnerving about being watched like this, and thus got the hell out of there.

At least your character is somewhat is more realisitic, Tehan. You should fill in some bio on him though. By the look of him, he's some sort of bandit.

Obrad is at the top of the church tower, watching the people below trudge to their individual locations. He is here because he wanted to throw himself off, taking with him his Grandfather's old Revolver in case he wasn't sure how to end it, but now he has decided with life and a new dawn of adventure opens out in front of him.

Tahan goes to the bar and surveys the Hologram offers

Finest Tharsian Mead â2

Marine Wine â50

Imported Terran Ales â4 each

He asks the people in the bar if they have anything that needs doing, nobody replies but an elderly man who is sitting in the corner, he appears eccentric.

"Take my STaLLIoN and ride to the hills, I have a friend up there but I haven't heard from him in a long time and I am beginning to fret"

"Why don't you just call him?" replies Tahan, confused.

"because you can't get reception in the hills, there is too much interference from the all the transmissions, not even a TERRAnet signal" he says, insistent.

Sami leaves the Red Rock and stands out in the Street. Yellow clouds boil up on the horizon against a pale sky.

Max leave the Cosmonaut's Rest and stands out in the street, he notices another person standing out in the street outside the Red Rock Inn far down the main dusty road.
