Hobbits [And Other Things As I Make Them]

Here's my creature raws for hobbits, smaller than dwarves [being slightly shorter and less powerfully built] but good at hiding and throwing.  Obviously Tolkien-inspired, though I haven't yet worked out how to actually manage the hairy feet bit.  Mostly taken from the dwarf raws, though it's not a simple copy/paste job, and as they spawned in the arena just fine and didn't give me any errors in the logs, gonna assume they're working fine.

I may use this for the Tolkien mod I'm planning... or I may make my own. We'll see. Your permission is the biggest part of the decision process.

Hobbits would actually make total sense for a friendly playable race that digs homes into hills. A bit like kobold camp, with hobbits only digging soil and using some wooden constructions as well. :)

Yeah, still studying body raws to handle hairy feet.

You certainly have permission to use these guys.  I'll have to write up a vanilla entity file for them - I've got them in my Masterwork game right now.

Quick questions: Will it work with FTN? also, do you specify that you are genning a Tolkien world or is it always on?

I have no experience with modding, but maybe you could use some kind of resistance on their feet to represent hair.

a problem i had with hobbits is since they don't wear footwear it seems thats the first bodypart to go after in any fights, my hospital screen was full of broken toes :P

Keep them digging burrows but also allow them to build structure above ground, we can't have them stick with minor metals since you wont be able to craft good armor (they know how to make steel). Im glad someone is making them finally for DF2012, i was the creator for the 40d hobbit mod just never had the time to move them over. Also have fun reading the histories, i swear i had one hobbit that singlehandedly killed 10 dragons himself.

Back and modding again, here's another intelligent race for your game.  The sovani, based on the game The Last Remnant.  Powerfully built at 75000 max size (at age 18) and with great strength, they're brutal in close combat.  Being four-armed panther-esque humanoids, they're fully capable of using more than one multigrasp weapon to lethal effect or even quad-wielding (although they will prefer the weapon in their first right arm/first set of arms generally speaking).  They're long lived and have the sharp teeth and claws you'd expect from a humanoid big cat.  They're a little clumsy and have weaker memories than other races (coordinating four limbs is hard) but are hardy and patient due to their history as persistence hunters and have a natural aptitude for taming wild beasts and sneaking through the wilds.

Sadly, short of giving them absurd stress resistance, it doesn't seem workable right now.

I guess hobbits will just have to wear shoes.  Make 'em all wear sandals, that way they're not cramping their feet.

Figures. I personally made differently working halflings a bit later (sig middle link), ended up giving them open cloth sandals with cover set to 0.

I guess you could also make them wear spats or ankle bracelets. Or if combat functionality is not an issue, make their head their stance part and make their shoe a hat. No shoes should be a pretty minor bad thought, though, so could just ignore too.
