Do enemy war animals give birth?
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:37:50 pm »

So I've got this captured enemy war leopard, chained it it's little bunker. It is female, and I also have a free-roaming, tame male leopard in my meeting hall. It's been almost an in-game year without any cubs. So I've been wondering, will there ever be any? I'm using 31.25 with the Fortress Defense mod.

Indeed. And by feral, we mean they will kill you, tame or otherwise.

Still weaponizable though.

On the note of feral young, will all descendants of that war cat  be hostile? It just had some cubs, both male and female. I can now just kill the mother leopard and tame the young, but will their children be feral? How about their children's children?

Once you tame a creature, their offspring will be tame upon birth. So no problem from that front.

Aww. Poor little guys, their mother rejected them. By which I mean she started outright slaughtering them the moment I unpaused.

Huh. The cubs are now considered 'Friendly.' They must have forgiven me for slaughtering their mother right in front of them. (though I did save their lives in the process...)

From my experience, anything that is considered outright "hostile" or anything begotten of such a creature, will almost always be hostile. However, if said being is to kill or otherwise do battle with another hostile creature, they tend to become friendly. Perhaps this is due to the traitorous nature of defending the dwarves, or perhaps they simply grow to enjoy life at that particular fortress.

Difficult.  Intelligent creatures (including goblins) don't give birth unless married.  To breed goblins, you'll need to have a married couple.  They won't get married on your map, so you need to have a pair of historical figures who were married during worldgen both show up and stick around long enough to get pregnant and give birth.  Not impossible, but really unlikely.
