A microfort in a stable area may run better, as long as there's no magma drainage or strange caverns.

Note to self: Attempt playing on this map as soon as I get the chance.

This seems very interesting.

I have a question though: Do the clowns instantly spawn and charge you, or do they not spawn?

Thank you everyone for the help! I've since flooded the fortress I was working on and now have a new one going up.

I just played on the map that you uploaded, but the spire only goes up 3 z-levels for me.

It's supposed to, it's the open air that continues for over a thousand.

No, circus has been open for 200 years now, clowns gone away.

Over NINE thou...

I don't mean to alarm you, but it appears that your Dwarves are all in fact elephants.

Oh you guys are incredible. I might even join you guys in exploring my world and seeing how gloriously bugged it is. What places have already been explored and marked bugged-to-hell?

Or use dfliquids to obsidian-floor over it at the bottom.

I have this idea that with 300+ z levels above I could make a very nice dwarven sky colony and flood the world with magma but at the same time it seems like this would be a very bad idea.
You really haven't played DF in a while, have you?
There are no bad ideas, there are only victims.

Sigged. Also, this fort is amazing. You know you have created an awesome game when playing with bugs takes priority over normal gameplay. Though, normalcy doesn't really exist in Dwarf Fortress.

It is possible to patch up any holes with the dfhack liquids tool. It's one of its core functions - painting obsidian walls and floors deep in hell :)

Set the game to pause after embark and inspect the map with reveal before you do anything else in those bugged worlds ~_~

In the original legendary spire thread, the starting seven were unable to do any work as well, but IIRC at least some of the eventual migrants behaved more or less obediently. Might be the case here too, although it doesn't exactly make the forts a lot more viable.

I wonder if these kinds of worlds kill visualizers...

Hehe. I wanted to have a look at the weird cavern structures in 3D but Ogreseer hanged itself after a couple of seconds. I guess rendering a few thousand sky levels is a tad too much for the poor thing :P. Since Stonesense has a different approach it works fine, going to have a look now.

EDIT: Upon trying an embark myself, I uncovered a sight of eldritch horror:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An adamantine vein inside a cluster of microcline. Armok help us all.

EDIT: Did I mention that Hell doesn't seem to exist, at all? This world sure is something, with a nice name to top it off.

Hell-less embark (SE corner):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The lowest z-level in its entire glory:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Four nearly solid adamantine veins (not pictured) leading to a complete square of semi-molten rock. Considering the amount of sky levels, maybe there's a Heaven up there somewhere instead.
