{38b}Caravan wagons... Deconstructed?

So, I had a little problem. The caravan wagons couldn't get into my fortress. When they set out, the depot was accessible, but a goblin ambush made me raise the drawbridge. Now, the drawbridge is on solid earth, so the caravan attempts to go across anyway, but is stopped by the raised drawbridge. Not wanting to squash the caravan, I start digging a tunnel to them. However, the wagons suddenly deconstruct themselves! The merchants, their guards and wagon-pulling beasts are leaving! I did have the non-wagon merchants arrive and unpack, but now they're leaving too! The wagons dropped their whole inventory as is their wont when deconstructed, and now my dwarves are busy picking up all the stuff. I haven't had any announcements of their leaving, either! If it's any help, I just had an artifact made, but I don't think it affects it.

Yeah I've had that long ago when they can't finish their path.  There's most likely a note somewhere that they should turn around instead of fall apart.
