Campaign II: Saduk - Fourteenth Turn (Inter-Battle)Ashley MalkusBattle-psyker Ashley Malkus steps through the doorway to a lonely balcony of Calhose Manor. Tendrils of smoke drift up from below, and Malkus draws it in deep, savouring the taste far beyond the capabilities of the mundane man. The smoke is coming from a pair of Sadukian officials smoking Lho-sticks beneath the bulky stone balcony. Ashley listens to their idle chatter for a moment. There is a clear hint of nervousness in their voices, unsurprising at a time like this. It's not the only smoke her psychically-aided senses spot, however. Thick pillars are arising far in the horizon, and nearer, in the Imperial camps and from the houses of Calhose.
She reaches out with her abilities, seeking for xenos minds. There are none, which is unsurprising, but one can never be too careful. The xenos have dug in and established strongholds at several points in the region, unusual for their kind. The Lord-Commander believes they are searching for something, which would explain their erratic behaviour.
Ashley goes over her plans. She is supposed to head to the Guard camps before the night is over. The Lord-Commander has also requested her presence in a later meeting, but it is not due some time yet. He has also pledged to provide her with a bodyguard, who will no doubt be present at the meeting.

Konstanz ScriptorKonstanz Scriptor lets the flames fall from his fingertips once again, watching the little sparks of gold descend upon the muddy ground much like teardrops. Upon hitting the ground, they disappear, only to reappear on the back of Scriptor's palm. He continues moving the fire, letting it circle his hand. They are not real flames, and Konstanz is not harmed. He is simply practicising for the coming battles. The few Guardsmen who pass his spot do so quickly, shivering despite the heat emanating from his displays.
The psyker stops, settling back to listen to the voices around him. The general mood in the camp is surprisingly good. The day's battles were mostly defeats for the Eldar, especially on the grand scale. In the morning, the Guard will push out and clear out the Eldar and their strongholds.
Inside a large tent - presumably serving as a canteen of some sort - come laughter and loud conversation. Every now and then someone stumbles out of the doorway, visible drunk. Alcohol is, of course, forbidden and drinking it at a time like this idiotic. Konstanz has received word about general training ops being held at a warehouse up in Calhose proper. A detachment of Ogryns is also just being transported down onto the world, with the usual problems with Ogryns. Coazan promised to request one of them for his personal bodyguard, so heading over there could be useful.

Sergeant Grygur UrugurGrygur regards the masked medicae aide cautiously, trying to get a better position on the chair. The aide takes his time, looking over a stack of papers with no attention paid to him. The sergeant resists the urge to interrupt him. When he finally turns to Urugur, [6] he has good news to tell.
'Congratulations, Sergeant. Your body withstood the damage from the Eldar weapon surprisingly well. We were able to fix up almost everything. You should feel no ill effects, but you are required to undergo a proper medical examination once all this is over. For now, you're cleared for action.'
The sergeant mumbles his thanks and exits the tent quickly. The smell of various human bodily fluids and chemicals linger in his nostrils for several minutes after he's outside in the cool night air. Laughter and speech floods his senses, replacing the constant hum of machinery and dripping of chemicals inside the medicae tent. He tries the spot where the wound was, feeling just a light tingle instead of the pain from before. The regimental doctors must've been better than he'd thought.
Another sergeant by the name of Mavis invited him for a few rounds of Gamadan Crowcall earlier, a popular card game Urugur is relatively good at. Grygur is also supposed to meet the Heavy Weapons Team he's been assigned, just arrived from the fleet in orbit. He also needs to discuss the reinforcements and supplies he requested earlier with the Quartermaster. If he's feeling up for it, Colonel Menek is organizing combat training and tactics lessons in Calhose.

DisciplinedSergeant Micelus AbbarMicelus Abbar steps inside a brightly-lit tent serving as an impromptu mess hall, pausing to take in the view. The tent is full of Guardsmen from different units, talking, playing cards or drinking something he suspects is against regulations. Some of his own are with them, and salute quickly when they spot him. Several officers are inside as well, the most notable Captain Hollid of 1st Company.
The sergeant finds himself a spot, but before he can even attempt to relax, a booming shout silences the tent. He turns to see Commissar Aurug standing in the doorway, face set in a sneer so severe Abbar suspects there's something wrong with his lip. Obviously enjoying the effect he has on the men, the Commissar waits a few moments before continuing.
'Stop this...
debauchery at once. Your behavior is not fit for a soldier of the Emperor. I should execute all of you lot, right now.' he growls, gaze reaching every corner of the room. 'If you are a true servant of the Emperor, follow me immediately outside. I will be forced to report those who do not.'
He turns with one final glare and leaves. A few moments pass, and life begins to return to the mess hall, starting with nervous or relieved laughter. Some of the soldiers get up to follow the Commissar, but some just turn back to their games and chatting. It's unlikely he even knows the names of half the people in the tent. Commissars are notoriously unpredicable, though.
Abbar has other things to do than participate in whatever Aurug's come up with now. He needs to discuss the details of any reinforcements and repairs his squad will receive with the Quartermaster and check on the Ogryns that have been assigned to his squad. Abbar's not sure what to think about this fact. Ogryns aren't usually thrown at easy targets, so it's likely they'll see heavy combat soon. They should be at the landing area just outside the camp.
On the other hand, it would be much nicer to stay here and join one of the card games going on. Many of the men playing are notorious gamblers, and a good victory could yield a lot of Thrones, or something even better. Or he could see what exactly the soldier going around in the tent is offering people. Combat stimms could come useful in battle, and most of the stuff isn't even actually against regulations.

LaricLaric waits anxiously for the tech-priest to return. He can't make out his own vehicle in the row of tanks that are being dragged out of the Mechanicum area of the camp, but they would've told him if they scrapped it, right? Do the Mechanicum even do that? It would harm the machine-spirit or something, right?
[6+1=6] His fears are soon proven wrong as a tech-priest in the red robes of the Mechanicum appears, regarding Laric with a pair of glowing bionic eyes. His arms click and whirr as hands a dataslate to the unaltered tank commander.
'Most of the damage suffered by the vehicle has been repaired for now. Further repairs will commence onboard the fleet. However, [5] the machine spirit was considerably shocked by the battle. Do not let it fall to harm again. [2+1=3] We did not have time to replace the main Bolter on the vehicle.' he states quickly and turns away to work on someone else's tank. Presumably this means the Autocannons have been repaired.
Walking back towards the 66th's area of the camp, Laric considers his options. He could pay a visit to the infantry camp, or head to the city for some extra training. He also needs to discuss replenishment of ammunition with one of the Munitorium aides. He was also supposed to meet up with Colonel Iones to discuss a formal complaint of Selop. Hopefully he can exchange him for someone with actual driving skills.

Markon JoanosMarkon Joanos makes his way quickly through the twisty streets of Calhose, devoid of people except for the bravest officials and militia, and other Guardsmen. He's coming from a meeting with Colonel Iones, who was so impressed by his quick action during the day Joanos has been granted command of his own formation - just three tanks for now, though. The new tanks are a Punisher anti-infantry tank and an Executioner tank hunter. He's supposed to meet their commanders down in the camp as soon as possible.
He has a busy schedule otherwise as well. Before dawn, he needs to talk with the tech-priests regarding repairs for his own tank and the Munitorium aides for new ammo and fuel. He also might want to participate in some training exercises or visit the infantry camp for some relaxation before combat begins anew.
