As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

The villagers try and hold back the slimes from behind the logs. The green slimes have a thick membrane that when punctured, causes them to bleed thick sludge while the orange slimes have a composition closer to that of very thick dry tree sap and only split when stabbed or slashed. The slimes continue to advance despite some of them being filled with numerous holes and oozing sludge everywhere.

Weapons:
 14x Wooden Spears
 10x Fire-hardened wooden spears

Tools:
 1x Hatchet
 1x Hammer
 1x Pickaxe
 1x Shovel

Construction Materials:
 1x Pile of sticks
 25x Dry Bricks

Food:
 9x Large red berries
 3x Small red berries

Misc:
1x Bird nest(with 2 eggs)

Population:
 5 Peasants
 1 Woodcutter
 1 Clayworker
 1 Fisherman
Total: 8

Stab as many as possible. Just enough to start oozing, don't get excessive. Then, fall back and let them bleed out.

This is the only way I think we can deal with these blobs if they're still moving after a stabbing.
