What defines an axe?
« on: September 21, 2011, 01:07:33 pm »

How is something determined as an axe?

Does it rely on the skill, or is it something in the entity?

[SKILL:AXE] is what allows it to be used for wood cutting. This is, incidentally, why the game permits training axes to be used for wood cutting - it neglects to exclude weapons with [TRAINING].

Ideally, mining picks and wood-cutting axes should become Tools, but that'll probably happen much later.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Ah. Ok.

It would take a VERY smart game to figure that out.

Well. The soft-coding does not give enough structure in order to distinguish whether or not its an axe or a sword. The game could have some tags switched around, to immediately think "Why are pants different then shirts?"
