I have heard people saying that this does not help with FPS at all :/

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Go with DFHack, yeah. Set all clothes to be dumped via the Stocks screen then use DFAutoDestroy to get rid of them.

No guarantees that this'll improve your framerate, though. Heck, who's to say that things won't weird out if you remove everyone's clothes while they're still wearing it? Do it for science anyways.

Anyway, having taken all their clothes off, my FPS rose to about 70-75 from about 60-65. This is on a fort with about 150 dwarves. It definitely made a difference, but at best 10 FPS difference, and more likely about 4 or 5.

This is harshly suggestive and funny at the same time. Too bad I don't have any sig space left.

Might as well create my sig there as well, including that whole stack.
