Well, world gen took really long here, too.
But since the persistent world feature and the legends/sites recording is so brilliant one'd have to be nuts to generate a new one without good reason.

This might sound like a silly question, but... why not provide a few pregenerated worlds for download, and include a 'default' world with the basic download itself?

Yes, it takes away some of the fun, but it lets people jump right in, and the very first time they play most people aren't going to notice the difference since they'll never have seen the world before anyway.

Including a default world inside the main zip would up it to something like 12MB, which is a bit much for me right now, and maybe some people downloading.  Putting a separate link to one for those that need it seems like a good idea.  "The Eternal Realm of Tempests" and so on.  I imagine if people still play this game in a bit, people will start sharing their own world files and setting various goals and hand out tour booklets and so on, but I'll put some up with the next release.

I've posted a worlds link below the main download link.  It goes HERE.
I think that world works...  I DL'd, unzipped it and so on, but the FTP was a little glitchy back when I put it up.

Hrm...  maybe the downloads screen should mention how long world generation takes, though?  I was thinking more along the lines of people who are just impatient and want to play now to see if they like the game.  The fact that one of the earliest features added after release was the ability to cancel world generation shows, I think, that some new players are put off by the unexpected delay.

It could probably use an in-game notice as well, like, you know, are you sure?  you could go to and just get a world?  And you could always cancel if you are getting bored, and then go to .

edit:  I changed the main page a little, I think small world gen should help if I can get to that...  and the other thing..   a.d..f.

I have an AMD Athlon 3200+ which ticks along quite nicely -- usually it takes about 15-20 minutes to generate a world.  If anyone wants to host the bandwidth, I'm sure I could do up some random worlds.  I can't guarantee those worlds would be interesting, though. =)

[edit]Actually, I was being liberal with the estimate.  Turns out it only takes me about 10-12 minutes on the average.[/edit]

Generated three worlds, plus PNG images, while I had nothing better to do during dinner. =)

You can bop them over to toadyone@bay12games.com if you want (one at a time or it might bounce?  it forwards to my gmail and I don't remember if they had a limit per mail) -- I don't mind hosting a total of four right now.

I'm getting 4 or so with about 30 dwarves and a bunch of laggy haul path jobs.  This is on a 2.59GHz laptop.  I haven't had a chance to time a season.
