Kobolds-
« on: October 24, 2011, 06:25:12 pm »

Hey, I know to make them survive past worldgen, you need to set them up as [no_eat][no_drink], but where in the raws is that supposed to be placed?

Also, because I don't feel like making two threads, what's the string to make creatures not feel pain, and where do you place it?

Anywhere within the kobold entry in entity_default I believe.
Also, [NO_PAIN]. I think.

creature_standard, not entity_default.

no_pain isn't needed.

He's asking it in addition so that he doesn't have to make a new thread.

Even with no eating or drinking required, the kobolds still die. Apparently, they like to pick fights with titans. EVEN WITH LIKES FIGHTING DISABLED.

bloody stupid lizard things.

Kobolds are dog thingies, not lizards. IMO.

As for how to get them to survive, try making their young grow up VERY quickly, as well as having litters of 6 or more. The cat motto should be applied: "When in doubt, or at any possible moment actually, breed. Breed so much you cover the earth, and cannot be killed due to sheer numbers."

But i remember hearing worldgen is weird sometimes, so not even that might help. If all else fails, do you best to make them highly adaptable and ridiculously hard to kill.

Well, they need to live beyond year 4 for dwarves to torture them horribly.
Which has to be worse than starvation.

They are not dog thingies in DF. In DF, they are pointy eared yellow eyed squat humanoid things with tan skin or something.

If you really want to mess with kobolds, make 'em live in cities rather than caves. They never really expand from the cave they start at, so their population doesn't really grow a lot and a neighbouring civ just might decide to wipe them out.

They don't show up on embark screen as neighbours. Of course, if you're viewing them in legends...

Giving them access to more animals, [RIVER_PRODUCTS], [OCEAN_PRODUCTS], some meddling with biomes to allow them settling more biomes and having access to more buildings and professions might be enough... but generally you're just unlucky, I've had them appear in all my words with the only modification being a gastrosectomy.

Of course if you're running a 1000+ year worldgen with lots of megabeasts...shit like that could happen to any civ in that.
