I saw that! Very cool. Did Toady add it himself? When I clicked on Bay 12's company page the founder was some member I didn't recognize...

What on earth is Desura? And why is this important?

Where is the chemistry
They tried chemistry once.
It created soap.
Dwarves lost interest in chemistry after that.

As I said, it's essentially another type of game distribution. Think steam, or origins, but very indie friendly. That's not by design, they're grabbing what they can, but in a recent poll there is overwhelming support for indie games and linux compatible gaming.

It's significant because it's putting Dwarf Fortress in to another public view. While they might already know about it, putting it on a game distribution site is pretty good for popularity. No word on if Toady uploaded it himself, though.

No, not steam..
..That will only attract the wrong kind of players..
..The kind that play TF2 and Call of Duty.

I guess it COULD get on Steam - after all, quite a lot of Valve developers know the game if not playing it. The big problem would be that Steam as a company probably couldn't affort to link its image with a game in such an early state of development, especially concerning the UI. It's probably better to let people come to DF with the right mindset for now. Displaying towards the wrong public could get the game a non-negligeable bad advertising.

PS: I played TF2. It's quite good ! Can't stand Call of Duty though.

Hey, TF2 players aren't all that bad.

But no, steam DF would be a horrid idea. Dwarf Fortress just isn't that type of game. Though I would like to see some sort of service that lets you quickly download other users maps, download full mod suites (One click fortress defense!) and compare badass legends figures.

As far as "supply" goes, DF is less than 10MB. Why would it need more distribution?

Well, I'm mostly interested in larger audiences rather than varied suppliers. It just happens that the two are somewhat related. Though again, does anyone know if Toady uploaded this himself?

S/he certainly doesn't seem to be very interested in "Protekting" Toady's work from being put on random things, hur hur.

(Yes, I did write that sentence just to make a pun.)
