Well, I can help you with what little I know, anyway.

town names

Here is a list of what the individual parts of many English place names means. I use it myself whenever I need to come up with a medieval sounding name.


Black Ravens - The Black Ravens are a mercenary guild,

Northern Trade Guild -

That would a a mercenary company and a trade league respectively. Though I guess you could kind of say that a trade/merchant league is like a massive, city/state-wide merchant's guild. And there's nothing stopping them from having "guild" in their name, either, of course. Mercenary companies were not the same as guilds, though.

There are too many fantasy games. If you made a historically accurate game about the dark ages, my inner early medieval history buff would be overjoyed.

What about an historically accurate game with a fantasy element to it stemming directly from cultural belief?  I've got a role-playing game that's in development also called Dark Ages and that is set in the early 8th century.  Want more details?  PM me!   :)
