Encouraging Elven Animal Diversity

How would you encourage elves to have access to more kinds of animals in worldgen? Also how would you encourage them to bring animals from specific regions especially regions that they won't settle directly like deserts. Is there a way to find out which elven civilization you will be trading with before embarking? Is it always the same civilization?

Does it choose the closest elven civilization for trading?

Elves can have access to other biomes if they are next to the forest retreats right? Does this have to be in the same region or can they get animals from other nearby regions?  So would a single contiguous high surface area forest surrounded by various different types of biomes maximize animal variety?

You can only see animals that are domestic if you embark as elves right? So you can't use that to check what animals they can trade.
