So how exactly will the new justice system work
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:24:04 pm »

So far the picture I have of it is:

There are two and a half crimes (being a vampire, tantruming, and being the wrong dwarf at the wrong time).
There are two anti-crime entities (the fortress guard and the hammerer).
The fortress guard has a point now (tracking down vampires, and punishing lawbreakers with immediate imprisonment or beating).
The sheriff is basically a detective/Judge Dredd.
The hammerer is basically a sheriff but without the detective work or command of the militia - an executioner, basically.
The player can accuse almost any dwarf of vampirism and have them imprisoned/beat/executed at any time.

Am I missing something, did I get the wrong impression somewhere, or is that pretty much a good summary of the new justice system?

You wouldn't rush Goya or Faulkner or Tarantino. Think about Toady as equal to those artists. And then deal with it.

My understanding is that vampirism isn't actually a crime. Bur murder is, and vampires like to murder people.

Considering that every Civ considers "corrupt" things like Undead, Forgotten Beasts, Night Creatures, etc as automatically hostile (unless of course Necromancers and skeletons will be able to live among people, like FB's who merge with a Civ), Vampirism itself being a crime makes sense.

Vampires will live among civs, mostly acting normal. They're the first of the internal threat creatures that were a big part of the night creature update.

Ooh, what if you got a vampire as one of the starting 7?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

But could that actually happen?

You wouldn't have to worry about the Zombie Slugmen at least, the vamp should make quick work of them :)

Well, then I would groom him to rule the fortress.
But could that actually happen?
No. The starting seven aren't historical figures until you get them.

The hammer is the law. Vampires on the other hand... they are the lore.
Puns aside, I think you've got it straight.

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

But the starting 7 are generated out of thin air, aren't they?
