"That's not my sister. I don't know who that is!"
« on: November 20, 2011, 05:37:38 pm »

So I build a fort just to test wether or not windmills cause noise pollution, right? (the answer is no they do not)

and I'm about to abandon when migrants appear. It's a single father bonecarver and his two daughters. Okay, cool ... but wait a minute.

The girls don't recognise eachother as siblings. Is this normal?

I'm totally keeping this fort. Just to see if daddy can get married and make more children.

edit: the girls don't seem to get "talked to a sibling lately" thoughts and they aren't developing any new relations with eachother. They're just a blank.

For what it's worth, I don't think Daddy will get married. I think that if a single parent moves into the fortress, it's the same as if their spouse had died at some point in the fortress, and dwarves never remarry.

I had a family like this show up in an early 31.xx fortress, a single dwarf and his two unrelated 'daughters'.  I didn't get to find out if he'd re-marry as he was killed by the fortress guard after tantruming soon after arriving.  His 'daughters' were ecstatic.

It makes you wonder if there's maybe something a little more sinister going on.

In my current fort, a dwarf widow and her son showed up. I am investigating to see if I can give the youngster some half-siblings, myself.

Been quite a while now.

They've been here for a little over a year. Spending most of their time socialising .. nothing interesting has happened. The father earned two grudges and a bear stole some booze.

Looking at the children they don't remind me of the father very much. Pink skin, emerald eyes and an angular chin. Those are the only constants.. and since everyone has emerald eyes and pink skin in the fort I guess it's the chin and nothing else.

EDIT: HE DID IT! THE WONDERFUL BASTARD DID IT!

Single immigrant parents CAN hook up with the rest!

So far this has not changed the relations screen. The girls don't acknowledge one another and their fathers' lover is a "long-term acquaintance"

It's a rather ancient bug, dating back to before 0.28.181.40d:
# 001092 □ [dwarf mode][migrants]   (Report) migrant children that come with just the father don't recognize each other as siblings

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Ah dependable Quietust. Whenever one fails to find bugs or previous threads, you are always there to assist! Thanks

Do they have the mother on their relationships?

No. It is a mystery who the mother is.. in fact legends mode says "The identity of her mother has been lost to time"

So dwarves that are widowed don't remarry. But do dwarves find a new lover if the old one dies? The lover still stays as such in their relationship screen, which implies that they won't hook up with any other dwarf ever again.

And yes, do the girls have a mother in their relationship screen?
