Roll to Cross Animals: Turn 0: Rainy Drive
« Reply #8 on: November 21, 2011, 06:15:59 pm »

Turn 0
Midnight, Tuesday, May 3rd

It was a dark and dreary horrible night to have a curse.

Four young men sat in the back of a car. Actually, three young men sat in the back of a car. One rode shotgun. A green fellow fidgeted in his seat as he made his best effort to drive them safely through the heavy rain.

"...Welcome aboard!" The green fellow - a turtle-like creature - attempted to lighten the mood with a little small talk. After all, what a dull trip it would be if they all just sat there! "I haven't properly greeted all of ye snappin' turtles after pickin' ya' up. I blame myself. My name be Kapp'n, self-appointed master of the sea. The rain tonight is nothin' fer me, garr!"

The four boys looked Kapp'n's way, but said nothing, expecting Kapp'n to continue. They expected correctly. Kapp'n couldn't look back at them due to keeping his eyes on the road, but at least he could hold a healthy conversation.

"I do apologize in advance, me boys. My memory's not what it used to be," said Kapp'n. He spoke with a pirate-like lisp so strong that it could only have been grown into over the years. "With that said... mind clearin' something up for me, will ya'? Today be May 3rd, 2011, correct?"

"Yeah, that's it." The lad riding shotgun - one Brian - replied to the broken silence. No need to start blabbering on in return for such a simple prompt, he thought.

A hint of a smile came across Kapp'n's face as he paused to make a sharp right turn. "Good, good. I see that me ol' thinker's not gettin' as dull as I thought. Now... what are you boys' names?"

Brian responded first. "Brian, sir!" He deemed it appropriate to be courteous to the person who was currently maneuvering him through the harshest of driving conditions.

"Why, my dear sir, my name happens to be Horatio," said the obvious. He took off his entirely decorative monocle and cleaned it with his shirt. Whether his monocle needed cleaning or he was merely acting nonchalant remained unsolved. Perhaps both. He was about to continue speaking when another of the kids interrupted him.

Richard sat up straight from his hunched-over, chin-in-hands position. "I'm Richard. I would describe myself, but the last guy seems to be waiting on a chance to speak,"

Richard had judged the last guy's facial expession correctly. "I'm Mathew! One T, not two!" Of course, it was not necessary for Mathew to state precisely how many T's his name contained, but it did make the other travelers smile.

Kapp'n could tell they weren't far from their destination. Out of nowhere, though, it hit him: he had forgotten the name of the town they were going to! He laughed at Mathew's response anyhow. "Harr harr harr... So, landlubbers, mind remindin' me one last thing, would ye? Where are we headed to?"

Mathew took a look on his map for the eleventh time. "My map here says we are heading towards Mopeville but I'm not certain. Never been much of a traveler."

Like the fact that you noted the single T. I usually state the same in real life.

"Mopeville? I don't pay attention to silly things like maps so I'll just agree with the others."
