Uber lucky siege
« on: March 04, 2012, 03:15:14 pm »

A bunch of goblins sieged, right as I was doing construction work. To allow my dwarves an entrance, I made a hole in the side of my fort. Before I could close it, about 10 hammergoblins attacked. One or two of my military died, but that's not the most noticeable thing. The remaining 10 or so goblins fled . For no reason, they turned around and ran off the map. I have about two invaders left now. What are the odds? e_o I dunno why they did either. One of my dwarves went into a martial trance, but he was fighting someone else... Either way, it was uber luck. With any chance, they won't com back. but if they do, hopefully I'll be able to finish repairing the wall in time. A very small amount of goblinite, I guess, but either way, my fortress survived, which it wouldn't have unless I designated every single person to the millitary XD

Goblins will sometimes rout and flee if enough, or important goblins are killed.

As someone who has dealt with sieges involving hundreds of enemies, I feel obligated to let you in on some tips.

1)killing important people will cause the dirty cowards to flee (this is bad because you get fewer kills, thereby depriving Armok of his rightful tribute)
2)If you can compartmentalize sections of enemy forces, hilarity can be had
3)prisoners should be dumped in the magma (you don't want to anger the magma, do you?)
5)there is no rule number four

with this insight, go forth and build a mountain of enemy corpses
then sacrifice it to the magma and be rewarded with a marginally higher FPS!

1. Turn your entire populace into one homogeneous military machine. Outnumber sieges 5 to 1. Where are your Gods now.

But then who will collect the socks?

That's an integral part of dwarven society!

You don't have a branch of the military dedicated to reclaiming socks? o_O

There must have been important people because I killed about two goblins and I had about 5 dwarves, maybe less attacking at once to their about 10.. :/

I sent four dwarves against 200 assorted enemies.  About 25% of them were archers.

no [dwarven] casualties.  Unfortunately, a lot of them managed to run away because no one pulled the lever that would have sealed their fate.
