What's your favourite color to be made into wall/floor/other? I like marbles for wall and other buildings and olivine for floor. The white + is relatively easy to spot as highlight, while the green + is easy for the eye and can go well as back ground color for other things.

I've found the dark blue of cobaltite to be extremely soothing to the eye, punctuated by yellow stairs/doors/workshops for quick visual distinction.  But it is somewhat context-dependent for me, as a hospital just begs to be done in (at least start out as) a bright white motif.  And then there's always the mental image of what you're building with: a dull grey colour may seem drab, but when it's a wall of steel keeping the goblins outside, it's beautiful, baby!

Probably white or dark grey, but I'm fine with just about anything. The actual material tends to be more important than the color, despite not actually doing anything.

It only recently dawned on me that Orange is not a color in DF. Why is Orange not a color in DF? WHY!?

Out of those, REAL dwarves use magenta.

It only recently dawned on me that Orange is not a color in DF. Why is Orange not a color in DF? WHY!?

Orange is a hard hue to quantify in RGB.  And it certainly doesn't lie in the standard 16-colour palette that (depending on implementation) is RGB values of [zero|some] where 'some' is [half|max], across the board for any particular colour, except when it's greyscale, when it's thirded to give you your black, dark grey, light grey and white.

Why? Because my dwarves worship the blood god. The cyan represents the "Candy" weapons that are cutting through flesh, causing the blood to spill onto the walls and floor.

Brown, Dark Gray & Blue. Brown makes me think of wood, Dark Gray is as close to black I'm getting, And Blue is my Fav color.

Dark Red is best - You can even make your dug tunnels the same! Just sacrifice some elves.

i prefer red. red is best!  specially when it's got the delightful white and red contrast of bloodstained marble sprayed by a helpful koblod thief, with the help of some cheerful kittens and all the fowl i usually get around to lay eggs

Usually dark red, because I often build my fortresses out of raw fire clay, when I can get it. I've been on an above-ground streak, so it's rather easy to have a single aesthetic.

I built a rather enormous necropolis out of marble once, too.
