By the way Shook, your doofy style actually really looks like something you would find in a Czech comic for kids. There was this one series about a wizard called Metloděj and his dragon friend Baltazar, who kinda looks like Doofus now that I think about it...



By the way, this is an older artstyle I didn't grew up with, but the dragon looks more Doofusy here than the newer one, honestly, overall kinda more charming. That was a big issue with a lot of these comics, overtime the art started looking less like drawings and more like stock bitmaps, not an unique piece of art but something meant to be cheaply mass-produced... It wasn't bad per say, just lost some of the spirit.

But y'all have the soul of your pics intact, always good to see.

I started working on a prototype for empire creation for my game, which so far really only covers designing the empire's home system.  Astronomical stuff is really all the game has implemented so far since it's mostly math and easier to do.  This will get a lot more complex once I have to start implementing government and cultures like I eventually plan to, but will tackle homeworld design next since that should be a direct extension of the work I've already done.

I'm probably planning for much too much, but I want empire creation to essentially work like embarking in DF where you have a pool of points you spend on multiple aspects of the empire.  This will probably end up impossible to balance, but I thought it would be cool if you could make tradeoffs.  More stars provide more power for solar systems.  More planets provide more mining opportunities and living space.  That would be balanced against a better or worse homeworld, which may have more or less resources.  Then the species traits would balance against that, and so on.  More intelligent and adaptable species would be worth more points.

Eventually I'd like to also make it possible to start with additional systems or colonized worlds, which would cost points too of course.

Does it make sense to start with a meager home system and a species with high potential, or vice versa?  No idea.  I don't really envision this as being a well balanced competitive game, even if I'm building it with multiplayer support.  I want something more like a sci-fi civilization generator, somewhat akin to DF's design philosophy of generating fantasy worlds instead of being yet another one.

Looks like your link is dead, or at least takes me to an error page about.

That planet's quite cold though, yes.  While I'm putting an unnecessary amount of effort into the physical modeling here, like trying to calculate effective temperature at an orbit from the host star(s) based on flux and planetary albedo, the model is probably seriously flawed in may ways so it ends up being silly.  This planet has no simulated atmosphere yet though, so once I add that in the effective temperature should go up.
