Keeping with the lyric I chose from Dreaming in the Daylight, the "dream" here is more an expectation - that Katja, the girl, was just the AI admin for the Hadron Leyline station, not the hacker he'd saved in Redwood a few days previous, with DJ in the center simply having a random memory of that.

The lesson? Not all expectations are correct. Instead of a talking toaster you get a girl who doesn't get out much except to fill roster for a handful of salvage crews.
