Muddy water mixed with lye
« on: January 15, 2012, 03:54:20 pm »

It's not good for anything

My soap makers keep saying they can't find lye when I have a ton of lye, but all of it is mixed with muddy water. Is this why they can't find the lye? And why does this happen? I have to make new buckets then make more lye before they get water put into them, just to get lye from the ashery to the soapers

Known bug.  When dwarves make lye, they don't check if the bucket they're using has water in it already.  This results in buckets of water mixed with lye, which can't be used to make soap.  The bug and a patch to fix it are described here:

http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=1324

You can clear water from buckets by forbidding the water, then when the caravan is visiting select the buckets to be taken to the trade depot.  The dwarves will dump out the water and take just the buckets to the depot.  I think you can even use this to remove the water from buckets containing a mixture of water and lye, so you can reclaim that otherwise useless lye.

Also, you should build a well so your dwarves aren't having to use muddy water.

The following binary patch (for Win32 DF 0.31.25 SDL)

Some hack, more like a crack really, a one-byte change to the binary? Sick

But I am in linux :(

My dorfs are busy moving footwear to the depot atm but next caravan I'll focus on trying to get the water out of the buckets. I had hundreds and they all filled with muddy water. I think I made some more out of gold

121 buckets

30 gold :D

The trick is to run drybuckets before you do a batch lye production, and don't do any pond filling or similar while the lye production is going on.

This results in buckets of water mixed with lye, which can't be used to make soap.

Ironically enough.
