actually, looks like more towards the dungeon keeper style of management, plus no 3d game can beat my ASCII advanced world simulator.


besides, i bet you can win their game.

*le sigh* I wonder how many genuinely original and innovative game concepts got shot down by Marketing in favour of greenlighting this? I don't have any issue with people appropriating a load of Toady's better ideas and remixing them into something different, that's a natural part of the creative process. But they couldn't even make it superficially not a follow-the-leader job on DF by making it a sci-fi setting or using Redwall-style funny animals or something? That's just intellectually lazy.

I'm okay with this. It cannot compete if it doesn't allow ridiculous atrocities, and at best will work as a gateway drug for more serious gaming.

People are probably going to be way too defensive about this. It's actually a really good thing, as it opens up people to the idea of this style of game which will in turn lead them to the source material.

That, and the game looks far closer to Dungeon Keeper anyway.

Toady One created a new game genre which involve digging and building at the same time. Defending is a huge bonus.

In all probability, between this game's release and the time it's forgotten, no more than one major DF release will occur. It's important to have some perspective.

It could be a fun diversion though, if we want something different as we wait for a release.

Honestly, making it 3d is nice, but it's still not Dwarf Fortress ;P

Still, comparing a game to the best one you know is not giving it a chance. Meh, I'm content with my ASCII.

i still cant believe the best game i have ever played is in ASCII. still its nice to have some 3d distractions once in a while.
