Since we can leave stuff lying around, doesn't this essentially give us the foundation of player created sites?  Say a bed, some bags and weapons lying under the trees in a forest?  Steal a few pillows from town and you have your own fort.  This is what I've always been waiting for.

Add in the ability to construct things and you have fortress mode from the perspective of a single adventurer.

Alternatively, switch it around and have the ability to take control of a specific dwarf in fortress mode as a normal adventurer.

Exactly the kind of game I've always wanted. I'd build a shrine to Toady in my back yard for that.

Might this lead to making reclaiming a different sized embark possible?

Next, maybe we'll be able to retire to the wilderness, becoming a hermit future fortress mode embarks/adventures in the area can find them.

I plan on using it to make a fort constructed entirely of legitimately obtained Adamantine.

Good luck with that.  I don't even want to think about how long it would take to find and collect all the candy canes you'd need.  Unless, of course, you plan to just create several small fortresses with the exclusive purpose of digging up all the candy you can.  Then you could lock it all in a room sealed with drawbridges (to prevent scatter), abandon, repeat until you have fortresses full of candy the world over, then travel between them with an adventurer (or several, depending on how things go), collecting all the glorious candy to use in your final, glorious fortress.

Actually I was thinking this is a little small-scale.
What I was thinking about was:
-make a few fortresses with a self-destruct lever
-open the HFS by taking Adamantine in each fortress
-lose fortress in epic fasion
-create a necromacer dwarf thirsty for revenge
-raise all the dead dwarves from your old fortresses
-invade hell with undead army
-take the Adamantine
-pull the lever
-run with your undead minons as your fortress self-destructs(bonus points for 'just in time')
-drop the Adamantine at your final fortress location
-repeat

It's unlikely that this is a significant step towards that.

My first thought.

I know it's dependent on the weight of the object, though.
So you could always store the goodies in a lead bin or something.

Plug in a little adventure mode crafting and you can damn near build/steal a house, even if Toady doesn't add anything other than this one feature. Nothing like stockpiling all your spoils of war in a chest you made.
