Anyone still have Dwarf Fortress 2d?
« on: February 03, 2012, 02:04:57 am »

I want to play it just for the hell of it.  I mean the version before any 3d features were added.  If you have it and can Dropbox it/email it to me, it would be much appreciated!

For the record, 0.23.130.23a is the last 2D version.

You know, speaking of old versions, whenever I try to download and play one of them (40d or later versions, usually) they seem to run really slowly. I've no idea why, perhaps it's where the old files are saved or something? ??? I downloaded them off the homepage, anyone know what's up with that?
I rarely have FPS issues in the current version, but these old ones were just ridiculous. Even in the menus and such, it was like typing on a keyboard submerged in honey. Kinda. I think. ...Maybe.

Game's gotten faster over time.
Old ones were REALLY SLOW.  In fact, that's why they put out the 40d## versions.   Because they were faster.

40d shouldn't be much slower than 0.31.xx (for a similarly-sized fortress), but 23a might be noticeably slower at first because it has VSYNC permanently enabled - the only way to get its framerate to exceed your monitor's refresh rate is using some special settings in your video drivers.

If plain 40d (or earlier) is sluggish even at the main menu, then you probably need to update your video drivers.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
