Find the captain of the ship and ensure that they are of sufficient rank and ability to lead an English officer into battle. If he/she is then find the crew and give them a moral boosting speech before the battle.

If the captain is incompetent then respectfully request that he/she steps down in favor of someone with more leadership ability (And British-ness).
