Is the latest version bug-free?

For those who have played it, what's your experience been like?

I mean, DF has never and probably will never be "bug-free", but I haven't heard any particular complaints that stand out compared to previous versions.

It's less buggy than older versions in my experience, but still has plenty of them.  DFHack helps with it a lot.

As a recent example, ammo usage was supposed to be fixed for archer training but I haven't figured out how to get archers to use bone arrows I made, despite adding them for training in the ammo screen.  They just never show up in the inventory there.  (This is a modded game using bows instead of crossbows, so it may work for bolts, but it's still a bug if bone arrows don't work with bows.)

I'm not sure if animals and citizens getting treed by invaders and starving to death got fixed either.  I saw it listed in patch notes a few times but the last time I had a citizen get chased up a tree I still had to use DFHack to get them out, which was after those patch notes.

I think armies you send out to do raids and similar things can still get lost, but it's supposedly better than it was, so there are probably just cases they haven't found the cause of yet.

Importantly though, those aren't new bugs so, I'd probably agree with PlumpHelmetMan.

Citizens revert to climbing once they get hungry/thirsty enough and will reliably climb out of trees and off roofs, not sure about animals though. I feel little or no concern about it now.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

Maybe I just didn't wait long enough, but I did watch some people stuck in trees long enough for them to start to suffering from starvation and dehydration, plus negative thoughts for those, and they still wouldn't climb down.

woe betide ye if you prefer curses_square_16x16.png font, for ye shall find yourself utterly unable to change the direction of bridges/screw pumps/waterwheels/siege weapons/etc.

it's better than it used to be because you just straight-up couldn't do it at ALL in 0.50, but the rectangular fonts are hideous and trigger my OCD, so...

That's been in for many years now, but I don't remember the exact version.  Oh, that does include invaders, by the way, and they can and will climb up out of dry moats or up walls.  You need to build overhangs on your walls to prevent invaders from climbing over them.

Also, be careful about stationing soldiers on walls.  Archers supposedly are smarter about this now, but I've seen many examples of melee weapon armed soldiers climbing over the edge of a wall to drop down on the enemy.  It sounds cool, and it can be, unless they fall 5 z-levels and break their legs.  I think overhangs also prevent this behavior.

Good luck finding a bug-free game!

Clearly we must add cushions into the game.

Add Justin Bieber into the game as a pop-up helper in the style of Mr Clippy
Add “tops” and “bottoms” to the game.
And switches. But Beiber Clippy is only ever a bottom. All the animal people are all bottoms too.

Is the latest version bug-free?
RE: Strictly speaking as-a-rule? No, but that is usually only because new feature(s) get added,
and so, in my exp, the versions, up untill just before a lot of new features get added, tend to be the most "bug-free".

If you're asking about a specific version though, that's maybe a different answer.

Reddit made it seem like Loyalty Cascades are back with a vengeance. Has anyone here had issues with that in the current version?

2014 was when climbing was added and 2023 was when i made it so that units will start trying to jump/climb to get out of jams if they're stuck somewhere
