I have tried every Mission type to hit a Necro Tower that is a mere 5 days distance, and every time the Squads are simply 'traveling' forever.  I verified that all Squad members had left the map.  I ask b/c I have successfully Raided various settlements of other civs, but a Pillage attack on a Dark Fortress cost me 10 Dwarves + 2 artifacts (I had not saved prior, now I do so before any mission attempt).  Being unable to focus on my Fort while waiting to see if a mission gets lost in limbo rather saps the fun.  Is there any known correlation or other factors?

Did a bit more testing trying to isolate a common factor.  Having a war animal assigned to the militia captain specifically seems to matter.  I sent 3 squads on separate missions to the same place at the same time.  One had war animals including the captain, the second had war animals not including the captain, and the third had none at all.  Squads 2 & 3 returned just fine.  In fact Squad 3 was spotted, changing the Raid into a normal attack, and the war animals participated.  Squad 1 started normally (mission can not be altered now), but changed at the same time as the others succeeded, and is now stuck in limbo.

Have you found anything new? I've been building up my fort but havent sent any squads on anything except exploration missions, and im unsure if i want to send them anywhere.
