Maybe you are wrong,  I can connect to this website directly, but it reads that “ Urban Dead closed down today, due to an upcoming change in UK website legislation.” so you are right on the other hand because I can’t play urbandead.com indeedly .

Nah, it's only going to kill the little guy who doesn't have the resources to hire a large moderation team that can enforce compliance. Most of the Internet is big websites these days so those will be fine.

Unfortunately, all the good parts of the internet were the small websites that were made by people rather than suits. The old internet has been dying for a while though. This legislation is just more nails in its coffin. At least for the UK.

I don't want to understate my opinion. I hate this law, but I've been hating the trajectory the UK has been heading in for a while. That country is beyond hope. When I get concerned is when other countries try to copy it.

Oh our issue is that both parties have an authoritarian streak to them, and the parties with an anti-authoritarian streak aren't going to get into power any time soon.

We have a similar issue that the US has. When the US passes something authoritarian, it's always "But terrorists!", for us it's "Think of the children!"

Trust me, we have plenty of "but the children!" hand-wringing over here too. It's nearly always got either authoritarian or transphobic reasoning behind it, and very very rarely is it actually about making sure kids are happy, healthy, or safe.

My 13 year old tvtropes account was broken. Apparently I needed to verify my email after 13 years of no issues. Except popups were blocked, evidently.

So I checked my ublock filter. For some reason, custom filter was catching TVtropes popups, no idea why. It wasn't an issue until recently either.

Anyway, got that sorted, bunged in my email, only TVtropes has it already in use apparently. Not really, I've received no emails from them on it. Put in another one, sorted, all fine now.

I'm just a bit stumped on what the hell suddenly changed.

Playing new game (Hero's Adventure, Road to Passion, a wuxia type trpg, more or less) and... stumbled across the beggar offering access to the cock fighting minigame. You can enter the punch magic chicken you've been escorting around as it murders people into kung fu hobo cock fights.

And, not, like, euphemistically ala pokemon or whatever. Actual chickens. Only chickens may participate in the hobo cock fighting ring, dutifully informs the crazy eyed beggar running the thing. No wolves or bears allowed.

I think what surprises me the most about it is... despite reading piles of martial arts fantasy stuff over the years (if admittedly more xian than wu, but whatever), I can't recall ever encountering backalley magic chicken fighting rings before. It fits the genre entirely too well for this to be a new experience, but if it's out there I've missed it, somehow. Until today, anyway.
