As a """"new"""" project, meaning something that's been on my mind for years and years that I'm just getting around to doing, I'm going to legitimately try to improve my drawing skill

Ive had a ton of things over the years I wanted to do, and tons of things I did for 3 or 6 months and then let go.

Its probably one of my major character flaws.  I'll do something and then stop it.

-coding
-latin
-emt cert
-building my own electronics
-organic chem
-guitar

you name it, I did it for a couple of months and got bored.  I'm really kind of disappointing in myself.

anywho, good luck with drawing.  Start small and keep your results in a folder or portfolio so you can visibly see your progress

Extreme drought (and water mismanagement) has left large parts of Iran nearly without water. It's national water reservoirs are filled below 3%.
The president has announced that he is considering evacuating the 10 million population of Teheran to someplace in the world where it does rain if the drought continues. Already, in the evening and night, there is no water. Residents are advised to fill bathtubs and barrels during the day (which of course does not help solve the shortage).

The government urges all people to pray to Allah for rain.

The problem is mismanagement. Most water has been used up by excessive agricultural projects. It has been a topic of debate and discontent in Iran for a while now.
Except now it has reached a point of 'fix it, or everyone in your country might die of thirst somewhere this month'. Three days no drink in hot dry Iran is certain death.

Heh, if those water reserves drop to zero, that will be 91 million people migrating to a place that has rain. Exodus seems too petty a word for that.

Oh I bet they're shitting themselves even more than that, the saying "Society is three meals from anarchy" applies to water too.

If people genuinely feel they're facing death fro dehydration things could get bad very, very fast.

Where and how?

Iran is a huge country with, as stated, 91M population. The countries around don't seem less arid, and while they might manage their water better, they certainly can't handle 91M refugees at once.

And you can't just put 91M people on a plane or ship. Nobody has that many.

So an exodus would be bad. Not just for Iran, but for whatever countries are in the way.

Rainfall was down by 92% this year in Iran. That might be a factor, just saying.

Exactly. It would be really bad and an impossible situation to resolve. Sadly, just like how countries cannot handle 91M people at once, it is also very hard to impossible to fill relief aid trucks and ships with enough water for 91M people. That's a... logistical challenge, to put it mildly.

So I realised a couple of days ago just why one of my subjects at uni was so damn hard for me.

It wasn't your usual lectures method of teaching. It was more of a "Go and study your own things, we'll give you little bits of help in the form of web videos. Then I want you to come back and discuss it in these little seminars."

Which apparently a lot of people liked. However that was a method of teaching that went straight through two of my vulnerabilities: Self-lead teaching (ADHD, I really struggle with this sort of thing so lectures work best for me since I can't distract myself and have to pay attention) and socialising with people I don't know at all (Social anxiety)

Nothing like paying UNI money to do your own research and talk about it with other students instead of a professor who is supposed to be an expert.

You might as well just ask if you can pay them a lump sum to get your degree. And skip the middle man of doing any real work, because that's clearly where they're at.

That's my annoyance with these "proactive learning" methods, and in the other end of the spectrum, going to a lecture where the professor is literally reading the textbook. I mean I can read it too. Give me the experience that isn't written there goddamn.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

Actually TALKING to professors is what you're paying for. This method of teaching is what purely online courses do, which frees up the professors to spend their time writing new books so they can get paid (selling them to students) instead of actually teaching them.

It started to be in vogue when I was about to graduate and I'm glad I graduated before it became the norm. I have zero issues with getting a reading plan and reading a text book. But I actually want to talk about what I learned, instead of just "did you do the reading? Cool, here's your test." I did that for a few civics courses and shit and that's fine for 100 or maybe even a 200-level course. But above 200-level, that shit gets complex and meaningful and I'm paying for an expert in their field to help me understand it and the nuances. I wouldn't pay, what, $200 a credit hour to read an online document and fill out an online test.

I did ask some questions to various lecturers, but thankfully I had the benefit of a lot of knowledge in my degree coming to me intuitively. Sure I needed to do some reading for assignments but most of the stuff that other people needed to study I just kind of... Got.

I was the same way in college. I just *got* most of the material without needing a teacher's input.

But....again, if that's all it was I could have taken an online course. I took lecture courses for *discussion.* I took lecture courses to have my assumptions challenged. I took lecture courses to ask questions that weren't directly related to the reading. I took lecture courses to get a knowledgable professor who loved their subject worked up.

That's worth <however many dollars they charge per credit hour now.> I think it was maybe $125 to $175 an hour when I was in college.

If all people are wanting is a degree proving they learned rote things and could repeat them on a test, then online courses are a boon. They're doable on your time and you get exactly out of them what you put into them.

The college experience should be a lot more than that though. I'm grateful for the teachers that inspired me and made me want to learn for its own sake. Something a couple chapters in a book and a test doesn't really do.

I am using a USB drive to move data between 2 computers. Both running Win 10.
I have different credentials on those computers though.

I coppied the data onto the drive with no problem.
When I tried to copy it off on the other computer, I found the new files on it could not be read. So I tried automatic disk repair.

Windows reported success, but after that, I could not even see the insides of directories on the USB drive.
Opening it up as Admin revealed, that everything on the drive became horribly secret. The files are still there. Nobody is allowed to even see them. Not just me on this computer, not even me on the computer I coppied them from.
So I will have to somehow change privileges on the whole drive to make me able to operate with them normally.
