The Downtown Game
What is this?
This is a RTD that I'm trying out where a group of players will be running through a downtown area while solving puzzles and fighting monsters. Mostly fighting monsters.
That said, since I'm running this from a DS, I can't track a lot of stuff, so I will need the players to keep track of their character sheets, and post them with their actions.
Otherwise, I can't do this, so if simply quoting yourself and making edits to your stats as necessary is too much hassle for you, please don't concern yourself with this.
This game will be as RP heavy as you want it to be, but it is based around working with your allies, so keep that in mind.
As for backstory, or a map, that's going to be one of your challenges. It will take place in a sprawling city, but you'll have to learn the rest on your own.
The characters you play as will be teenagers around late highschool age.
If this sounds interesting, let's begin.
Name: This is your character's name. You can just put this in the spoiler title if you want.
Background: A short summary of your character's life. Keep in mind they're highschoolers in a modern setting, so nobody will have had chances to slay dragons or tame the giant olms of the underworld.
Yep, that's it. Your stats, abilities, powers, or anything else will all be decided after you enter... the downtown game.

Name: Donny DiBorgo
Background: Donny has led a hard life. His family, Italian immigrants, are neither wealthy nor influential, but they are proud, honest people. He lives in the seedier part of the city, and has learned to stay quick on his feet in order to avoid the druggies and pushers as he makes his way to school. Life has taught him that the only things he can rely on are his family and himself.
He is generally distrustful, cautious, and reserved around others. He isn't paranoid, just careful.
Name: Ted Thompson
Background: Ted was a pretty normal high schooler. He came from a nuclear family with one younger sibling. Perhaps his greatest attribute was his intelligence, something he nurtured by spending hours in the school library reading various books. Instead of joining clubs or participating in school activities, Ted would stay in the library and read, or play video games when at home. He is a polite and jovial person, although he isn't above being sarcastic or acting like a smartass when he is bored., His introverted nature usually kept him from displaying this outside of the small group of friends he felt comfortable around. He didn't have negative relations with his fellow students, however, since he often tutored those who asked for his help.
Name: Ross Roosevelt
Background: A teen with an ego the size of small building. Ross considers himself to be a social butterfly able to scrum right on to his peer's antics and games.
Dylan Daehler: A socially reserved teenager who always had difficulty making friends. He always was the most happiest when he was socially isolated from other people and always had a difficulty with "finding a place" in this world. He has become a quite morbid, yet cunning fellow as he spend most of his time on reading and entertaining himself with technology, whether it be the casual video game or the more intensive art of programming. He has become quite an intellectual as his introverted nature led him have fewer, yet more deeper relationships with his friends. His main flaw is that he his very self-conscious and self-aware and that forces him to make a lot of subtle movements and changes of appearance so that his anxiety doesn't become unbearable for him.
Lily LaBlanc: a gamer and a bookworm. She always has either a controller/console or a book in her hands. She is used to being silent but will speak up. Lives with 3 brothers.
I meant to put up an application sooner. Mind squeezing me in?

A geeky 11th grader that has always loved worlds of fantasy. She's playedXxxxxh all sorts of games (from Mtg and the Pokémon TGC to TLOZ and FF), and imagined all sorts of worlds for her to be a part of. The immersion of being the hero of a medieval world, a rising master of monsters, especially a being that crosses entire worlds and turns her experiences into her power, all give her a feeling that nothing else can provide. She works for a bookstore after school, and she'll occasionally volunteer for the animal shelter. Long red hair, light skin, blue eyes, green shirt, jeans, red sneakers.

Section VI
Joe Joseph looks around him. Nope. There is not a damn thing around here that he's familier with.
With that, he hears his cell phone go off. It's a message...
Section VII
Donny DiBorgo checks the station name. "Eastside Station".
That's it. There aren't any stops that are just called Eastside. Nothing else looks familiar. Then his cell phone goes off. There's a new message...
Section VIII
Ted Thompson looks around him. Aside from the strange store he just left, apparently called "The Goth", what a dumb name, this place looks just like every other street in town. Only, without anything recognizable.
He pulls out his phone. The apps are all odd now, and half of them are missing, but maps are still there.
When he hits it, there is indeed a map that comes up, but it's not the town map. It's like some kind of weird board game shaped like a deformed butterfly. There's a main street down the middle, with 4 sections labled 1 through 4 in roman numerals. On the east wing, there's 5 though 8, with the 5 connecting to the 2, and the 8 to the 4. The 8 is lit up. There's an identical wing on the other side, also linking at 2 and 4, and a small circle around the 1. There are 16 sections, total.
His browsing at the map is interrupted by a text...
Section X
Ross Roosevelt looks about at the street names, but he doesn't recognize a single one of them.
His cell phone goes off. There's a new text...
Section XI
Dylan Daehler walks away from the subway and whips out his phone. Huh, he can't get a signal. Weird. Looking around, nothing looks out of place.
His eyes are pulled back down to the phone as he gets a text...
Section XII
Lily LaBlanc pulls out her cell phone and tries to make a call. There's no service. In the middle of town? She tries to ask someone passing by, but they don't even glance at her.
Then she gets a message on her phone...
Section V
Roésse Radde looks up from the sidewalk to the startling realization that this isn't the road she was just on. Before she can even collect her bearings, her cell phone goes off with a new message...
Section IX
Sara Sarowski sits on a bench, reading an English dictionary to try and memorize some cool-sounding words. When she takes a break and looks up, she realizes that she's not sure where she is now. She's on some downtown street that she hasn't been through before.
Closing the book, she feels her phone vibrate. There's a new text...
ALL PLAYERS
Reach the front door of Northern Heights, the tallest building in Downtown.
You have three hours.
Fail, and face Erasure.
-The Reapers
As each person reads the text that they mysteriously received, a sudden pulse of pain ripples through their right hand and up their arm, resulting in a red timer to scar on their palm, as it slowly counts down.
2:59:56
Around each of them, pockets of air warp and twist until small creatures, overgrown green frogs, begin to pour out. They immediately move towards the players, ignoring the crowds, who don't even seems to see them.
Attacks are done by activating a power, and rolling a D10. Lower rolls result in hits, high rolls miss.
Right now, nobody has any power. You can't fight the Noise without a partner. To get one, you have to find another player, and both must agree to a pact.
When you decide to "bounce" (run away), choose an adjacent map section, and you'll move to it. Running never fails, but enemies will get one last attack on you if you're in combat. For a map, read Ted's turn to get an idea of how the map is shaped.
Even without a partner, you can always dodge. If you spend your turn dodging, you'll impose a +4 penalty to incoming melee attacks, and +2 to ranged. You can't bounce and dodge in the same turn.
"Hey! Does anyone else see this shit!?"
Bum-rushBounce towards the target location. In the meantime, text the Unknown Sender the message, "Who the hell are you? What the hell is going on?"

I KNEW IT! I mentioned that it seemed like TWEWY in my original application, but I spent so much time away from my signup that it erased itself, and I forgot to include it in my second sign-up. You may not believe me, but it's TRUE! If I had put that, it would've been LEGENDARY!
well, maybe not legendary..
And I only ever knew about TWEWY from a passing glance at someone playing Kingdom Hearts 3D.
I forgot about the pairing-up thing, so I'm glad Elvish Miner also signed up. Also, I didn't realize the name pattern until just now. Is that a TWEWY thing? Anyway, where's the map?
"Seems like another of those dreams..though I don't remember the hand-timer. The reapers are unfamiliar, too..and the frogs are different. And is 'erasure' even a term?. So I guess this isn't like those dreams, then. Now I just need a map to Northern Heights..."

Joe Joseph
Joe starts to freak out and yells. Nobody seems to hear him. He looks around, trying to find the tallest building. It's to the north-west! A frog monster leaps at him, and Joe ducks. [7+4=11. Miss] It flies right over his head.
You see another kid running towards you from the south, being tailed by more frogs.
Donny DiBorgo
Donny calls out to the crowds around him, but his voice goes unheard. The tallest skyscraper is to the north, so he starts sprinting that way. A frog leaps at him [6. Miss] Thankfully, they're pretty slow, and it hits the pavement about 5 feet behind him.
As he heads north, he sees someone else being attacked by the frogs. He's ducking and covering.
Ted Thompson
Ted runs west onto the main boulevard. It's now a straight shot north to Northern Heights, maybe a 15 minute run, if he's quick. A frog jumps out at him. [4. Hit] It leaps up, and plants its feet on Ted's shoulders before kicking with both feet, and rocketing off him like he's a springboard. Ted stumbles backwards, and hits another person that got attacked, sending them both to the ground.

Ross Roosevelt
Ross collects himself, and swings a foot at an incoming frog, only to watch his foot pass straight through it, as though it wasn't even there.
The frog swings a claw back at him [7. Miss] Ross pulls back instinctively, and the frog takes a small patch of cloth off his shirt from its attack.
Yeah, that's totally fair.
Some other guy is heading towards from the south, being chased ineffectively by a frog.
Dylan Daehler
Dylan starts to question his own sanity as he sprints north towards the skyscraper. [10. Miss] The frog chases after him, but it can't keep up.
He sees another guy attempt to kick a frog, and fail horribly.
Lily LaBlanc
Lily sees the skyscraper to the north, and heads east onto the main boulevard, giving her a straight shot towards it.
[4. Hit] A frog slashes her from behind as she runs, causing her to stumble forward, literally into another person that got attacked by the frogs, sending both of them to the ground.

Roésse Radde

A frog leaps at her, and she ducks and rolls out of the way. When she looks up, she sees a tall building to the north, with the words "Northern Heights" on it, maybe 5 minutes away. Nice.
Sara Sarowski
Sara calls out for help, but everyone around her seems oblivious to her existence. A frog attacks, and she leaps to the side. [7+4=11. Miss]
She dodges easily.

So, Mastah, will you choose the enterance fee for us individually, or are we all just going to lose our memories to make it easy? Honestly, I can see Roesse's fee being either her imagination, making her only think of her memories up to what sis knows will happen/is happening (perhaps with literal-mindedness thrown in), or her sense of immersion, making her feel like she isn't really here, this isn't really happening, it's all a lie, a dream, that there's some real her thinking all this up, etc. I, personally, prefer some version of the latter.
Also, I'd love to see bald Joe.

Psychs are manifestations of your characters' creative force of will, and their source of power in the Game.
Your psychs start out unmanifested, and you don't know what they do, to learn them, simply attempt to perform some kind of combat action, and your powers will take shape.
Will you summon a blade of light to cut through your enemies, or conjure pychic fire? Your creativity is your power.

"This feeling...it's what I need to cleanse this nightmare! Not sure why I'd need the power of friendship with a total stranger, but there's no use questioning it. Now, how should I attack..."
Opening her right hand wide, fingers slightly curved, she extended her arm and arced it toward the closest frog. She felt an ability to choose her attack (what can't be chosen in a dream, anyway?), so she chose a good way to handle enemies up-close; her hands, as claws, dicing up nearby enemies.

How the hell powers and energy works
Each Psych has a number of stats that garner how they function.
Each Psych has an alignment of Positive (for melee), Negative (for ranged), or Neutral (Anything weird, these are rare).
Damage is self-explanatory. It's the amount of harm inflicted if the attack connects. Higher damage is better.
Hit is the rate of accuracy. As stated, attacks are done by rolling a D10 where high numbers miss, low numbers hit. You have to roll a power's hit rate or below to hit. Higher hit is better.
Speed is how long it takes to perform an action. Most attacks have a speed of 1/1, meaning it takes 1 turn to use it once. Fast attacks might have 1/2, for 2 attacks per turn, or even 1/4, for 4 attacks per turn. Slow attacks might have 2/1, meaning it needs a turn to charge before unleashing.
Each Psych that is either Positive or Negative will consume a certain amount of the associated Energy, and can be used until you run out of energy.
This means that you can use a power that requires 20 Energy when you only have 10 left, and you won't be penalized for doing so. Nifty, huh?
Once a source of Energy drops to zero, it begins to reload. While reloading, you can't use any psychs that need it as a power source until it's done.
Energy reloads at a rate of whichever Psych was used to finish the Energy out. If the Psych had a reload value of 15, then your energy will automatically regenerate itself by 15 points until full, at which point you can use it again.
Any excess energy, either when emptying the Energy with a more powerful attack than what the bar has left, or when reloading the Energy, is ignored. It can't drop below 0, and can't rise higher than 50.
This means that Psychs with higher Reload value fill the gauge faster, but only if it was the one to be the last used to empty the gauge.
Melee attacks use Positive Energy, while Ranged attacks use Negative Energy.
In addition, melee attacks deal slightly more damage when passing the puck (see next spoiler) and also gain higher hit rates when used consecutively in the same turn, for a stacking +1 hit for each attack after the first in a round.
Ranged attacks, however, are harder to dodge when actively dodging, and deal extra damage to enemies that have been weakened in some way. (See Joe's Airborne power in his Vulcan Uppercut Psych)
The light puck is a powerful assistant to partners. When you hold the light puck, your last attack in a round will deal extra damage, and then be passed to your partner(recieving it at the start of their next turn), empowering it further. If neither player has a light puck (such as when battle begins) then whichever player deals more damage in the first round will send over the starting puck to the other. The puck starts at x1.2, then increases by 0.2 every pass.
For melee attacks, this bonus is doubled. So if a puck is at power x1.4, it will be treated as x1.8 for if a melee attack is used to send it over.

Joe Joseph and Donny DiBorgo
Joe and Donny decide to get the hell out of this mess.
Joe runs face first into an invisible wall that illuminates with a blue wave as it's struck. Donny then reaches out to feel with his hand. It's solid.
But right as the last frog is pounded by one of the fighters back there, the wall shines brightly for a split second, and Donny tumbles forward as the wall vanishes without warning.
They pick themselves up and haul ass to the base of the skyscraper.
They place their hands on the front door, and watch as the numbers on their palms fade into nothing.
They won.
Ted Thompson and Lily LaBlanc

There's a kid stomping down a frog, with some others around the area.
But suddenly, as they run, they feel a strange sensation on their hands, and when they look, the numbers that held the timer are gone.

He lives in the seedier part of the city, and has learned to stay quick on his feet in order to avoid the druggies and pushers as he makes his way to school. Life has taught him that the only things he can rely on are his family and himself.
He is generally distrustful of strangers, cautious, and reserved around others. He isn't paranoid, just careful.
